Anyone been to PORT BARTON in particular?
I've been to El Nido and Puerto Princesa, but missed PORT BARTON.
I recently read they have the longest best in Palawan, plus the shallowest water that goes out the farthest. Plus its become a bit of a backpacker destination (in the Philippines, this means like 3-4 different people MIGHT arrive a day).

We skipped Port Barton because we took a boat from Sabang to Ell Nido, but many people who take the jeepney + bus ride to El Nido (if the roads hold up to allow this journey) told me that Port Barton is basically just a pit-stop to divide the ride into two days, and that the beach you speak of is in San Vicente, a short jeepney ride from Port Barton, and the only accommodation there is a rather expensive establishment. The beach in Saband is desolate, shallow, big waves in some spots, and up in El Nido and in the surrounding areas, you will find the most beautiful and desolate beaches if you seek them out or decide to stay at a resort (may I recommend las cabanas, a canadian-owned, solar-powered resort with amazing food, service, prices, and atmosphere). Palawan is amazing, I'm sure Port Barton is an amazing place, but never did I hear anybody say they wished they spent more time in Port Barton. |

I hope this is not the case. I have only read good things up to now. |

| we stayed for 2 nights and my girlfriend thinks it was $80/person, but I think it was closer to $70, and it also cost us about 1500 pesos each for extras like drinks and island hopping, kayaking, and things like that. the food is excellent, the owner is really cool, and the staff is even cooler. |

Just got back from Palawan. Did a 2.5 week trip: flew into Puerto Princesa, jeepney to Sabang, banca to Cacnipa...(AWESOME place...Coconut Grove Resort. Good for couples or people who like to be alone, and cheap [750 pesos/cottage]), banca on to Port Barton. Wasn't a big fan of Port Barton. Not much there. Wish we hadn't stayed so long there. There's a waterfall to hike to, and because it was bad weather, no island hopping. There are a fair amount of traveler-types. Mostly older gentlemen.
Jeepeney/bus to El Nido, which is cool. Funky little town, and the island hopping is great. Really amazing.
But neither husband or I liked Port Barton...least favorite spot. |

Thank for posting that. I'll write it off my itinerary of 'must sees'. I've been to Palawan once, and I really liked it a lot, I'll go again, but if Port Barton isn't that great, I won't make a repeat trip to just include it.
By the way, I'm going down to the Philippines again soon, Camiguin Island is on the list, as well as Bantayan Island. |

Camiguin is excellent. It was our favorite spot; along with Cacnipa Island (Coconut Grove). Camiguin is fun, and loads to do. Cacnipa is pristine...romantic.
We stayed at Secret Cove on Camiguin, run by a Canadian, Tom. He has GREAT food, and the best bar on the island. He also has motorbikes for rent, and Johnny's dive shop is there as well. It has black sands and not much of a beach, but it is such a cool island.
I wasn't a big fan of Bantayan, but I haven't been back there since I was in high school, 10 years ago.
I wish we had gone to Bohol. Sounds like it would have been good. |

| Yeah... Port Barton wasn't that great. But the beach is nicer than the one at El Nido. |

Doesn't say much, the El Nido beach certainly wasn't much to see. But the surrounding area is amazing.
I was just reading more about Palawan, and sounds like it's what's away from Port Barton that is nice (much like El Nido). |
