|
|
I was just wondering, for the western women in Korea married to Korean men, did you have to change ur last name?
No right? Because in Korea, a woman keeps her last name (family surname) after marriage and doesn't change it.
Just a random question I had.
So if you moved to a western nation with your husband, are you going to change your last name to his then?
so strange... this western practice of taking a husband's last name.
or what about some of you western guys married to korean women in korea? did you try to force your practice of her changing her last name in korea? what was the result? |

i am quite passionate about research. especially social science research that tackles issues that western sociologists rather not explore.
people who ride horses for a living can be academics too. |

When you get married are you going to have your wife take your last name? I am getting married next year and my fiancee is planning on taking my last name. |

In Quebec, women don't take the last name of their husbands. And it's not the law anywhere else in North America, I think. I"m pretty sure women can keep their last names if they wish.
My sister took her husand's last name. They live in Quebec, but he's from Ontario and francophone. My sister's anglophone. But they weren't married in Quebec.
My brother's wife kept her last name and they were married in New Brunswick, Canada. Where they're both from. More for business purposes, I'm assuming. She was already well known in her industry and I guess she didn't want to confuse anyone.
Other women take the hyphenated deal which is often associatedf with feminists.
Chilren, however, take the last name of the father. So Korean kids born to a western father and Korean mother get the last name of the father.
And vice versa.

i guess it would depend on where and who i marry.
its like if i have a western marriage, then i should have strippers and such at a bachelor's party. if its a korean marriage, then no crazy bachelor's party. haven't thought about the surname thing much. don't really care personally. |

I would never change my name to suit someone else, nor do I ever expect anyone else to do it to suit me.
I'm a bit disappointed that this is still the norm in the west. |

If I married a Korean guy, I'd gladly take his last name. I'm a southern gal and we believe in tradition. |

Maybe no bachelor party, but if it's a Korean marriage you can go to room salons throughout your marriage instead. |

So you are saying this is a common practice in the western world? |
