Not sure, I think it's even possible Edwards could eek out a win and gain some momentum again.

Real Clear Politics lists 4 polls, all with Obama up by about 10. No reason to defy the facts. Obama takes South Carolina. (Edwards only has 15%, so he's out of the running and not just in South Carolina. He was born there and can't muster more than 15%.) This is a two-'man' race. Sorry, Hillary.

Ya-Ta,

As an Obama supporter, I think I'd be weary of the polls. If it happens great. Personally I think he needs a large win to stay in the race at this point. Edwards could endorse either of them, but I don't know if he will. He may drop out and stay silent. It would make sense for Edwards to drop out after SC, but then again maybe he'll defy logic and stay in until Feb 5th.

If Edwards endorses Clinton, she will win the majority of the Feb 5th states. The race is over and Clinton is the nominee.

If Edwards endorses Obama, he may fair better in the Feb 5th states and increase the chance he can beat Clinton in a two person race.

For what it's worth, one of the journalists on Chris Matthew's panel stated that there's no way that Edwards would endorse Clinton, so he predicted that Obama would get his endorsement ...

Aren't the vast majority of democrat voters in SC african americans? And isn't Obama ahead by a fair amount among african-american voters?

I think Obama's got a good shot to win SC.

I agree. SC is Obama's state to lose.

Put another way, if Obama doesn't win SC, the media will skewer him.

I predict a single-digit % margin between Obama and Clinton. The delegate count will still be close. Every state has a lot of women.

This article on CNN's site states that nearly half those who vote in the Democratic primary in South Carolina are blacks, and Obama is currently supported by about 60% of them ...

That's the percentages for the entire population of SC, not just democrats. I'd wager it is the opposite among registered democrats.

edit: whoops, thanks Rteacher for providing the stats.

Do Obama have a legitimate shot at the nomination? Or, is he a long-shot?

The fear is that he'll be taken out by a "long shot" at some point ...

legit chance, but I agree with Kuros: if he loses SC, he will become a long-shot.

Yes, he do have a legitimate shot. Clinton is marginally ahead very early in the race. Things will probably be clarified on Feb. 5. By then, over half the states will have held their caucuses/primaries.
