It would be nice if people realized that even though we look Korean, Gyopos are essentially the same as Americans. I mean, I was born and raised in the US and my education was English. My educational environment was the same as, say, Bob Jones. Yet if Bob Jones says a stammering sentence in Korean it's recognizably more amazing, than if I say it, and some people respond, "Your Korean is weak. WHat age did you go to the States?" I am relatively fluent but people should realize that learning/utilizing Korean takes the same amount of effort for a Korean American as it would a completely Caucasian looking American.

Who do you want to realize this? Koreans? Foreigner?

You sound like a decent guy, but there are a bumch of angry kyopos out there who want nothing but to distance themselves from the "angry American" even though they owe everything they have to the US fookin A. And of course, they feel they have a special connection to Korean people that makes them better than us. Of course, it's BS, but that's what you're gonna get lumped into

Sucks that this stereotype is out there cuz there are actually a good number of decent, respectful Kyopos who shouldn't get shiat on like their confused "brethren".

There's an expectation, since you're of Korean descent, for you to study/learn Korean. If a white guy with an American flag on his backpack came up to me and said, "These pencil how much?" I'd give him a lot less slack than I would a non-westerner who created the same sentence.

There are about 5 million Jews in the US. When gyopos become that large a demographic group then they will get better treatment. If gyopos were 10% of the US population like the blacks we would be a very significant force. What you're asking for yurim is better "lip-service" or PCism for Korean Americans and that happens only when the demographic numbers are favorable, imo.

well the OP, as another poster pointed out, is a bit vague as to what "people" the OP is referring to. nonetheless, gyopos would receive more regard in korea and in the US if their numbers were higher in the US.

They are Americans. 'American' is not a race-based identity.

Two points:

1) You are dealing (in interactions with ESL types in Korea) primarily with people who have never been to a foreign nation and come from some flyover state. When was the last time you met an ESL'er from Miami, NYC or LA? Almost all my American friends were from the Midwest or some small farm town in some state.

2) Kyopo's from LA give Korean-Americans a very bad name. The most racist people I've ever met are Korean Americans from LA. Go to asiasfinest and find the threads where they talk about killing all the white English teachers in Korea. All LA Gyopo. A white dude goes to a club in Seoul and some douchebag named Kim (dressed like a black dude, but scared of black dudes) will try to mess with you. They are terrible people.

Sorry you've had troubles. The Koreans don't accept you as Korea and your real people (Americans) think you Korean. It is a weird situation, I'm sure.

I agree, except for the "holy crap" part. There is nothing at all surprising in Komerican missing the point.

I can imagine that it must be really painful finally getting to Korea and then finding out that your countrymen have a tendency to be arsehats. Kind of like finding out your dad is gay.
