Does anyone know the process of getting a Chinese visa (for an American)? Where the embassy is located, how much, how long it takes?
I had read you could get one on the ferry if you took the ferry, but I'll most likely be getting there from train via Mongolia.
Which brings me to the question... do Americans need a visa for Mongolia? I've come across different reports, but the latest information I found said that Americans automatically can stay for 30 days without a visa. I'm just not quite sure! Thanks. |

this info is dated now. Americans no longer need a visa for Mongolia. Chinese embassy/consulate in Seoul will no longer allow independent applications for visas. You have to go through a travel agent. |

Depends, there is normal which is about 5 days, ecpress which I think is two-three days and turbo express which is next day. |

Yes, this thread also happened to have been made well over a year ago. |

Remember to apply for the "double visa" which allows an American to travel to/fro china twice a year and u pay only once - no special docs needed. |

After America started returning all the Chinese toys last year, China upped the visa price to over $100 for Americans only! OK, probably a coincidence in timing. That is about 3 times the price for all other countries. Anyway, if you want to go, by all means go, I admit that I did. But if you don't like to see a big sign in the Embassy singling out your country to pay extra, think about Taiwan instead. It is true that you can double entry, but they told me the max time was 6 months; for a year must be a business visa.
I went to Mongolia last year, no visa required for US. Check for Mongolian air tickets. Some agents say only Korean air goes there, but Mongolian air also goes for much cheaper. |
