Quote:
Hundreds of students filled the York University student centre today for a rally against racism, but the meeting quickly degenerated into attacks on the government of Ontario, the state of Israel and the new president of the university.

The rally was in response to the discovery Tuesday of racist graffiti on the door of the York University Black Students Alliance office and two washrooms adjacent to the office. The graffiti read All Niggers must die and Niggas go back to Africa.

The rally began with speakers calling for the York community to unite to combat racism on campus. The first speakers described the graffiti as an attack on them, their space, and their safety.

As other speakers took the microphone, however, they turned the focus to attacks upon Israel as a racist and apartheid state, Premier Dalton McGuinty, and York University President Mamdouh Shoukri.
McGuinty was blamed for the racist actions of the government for denying entry last summer to Malik Shabazz, the leader of the US New Black Panther Party.

The strongest attacks were saved for Shoukri. At the microphone, one of the rally organizers criticized Shoukri for not caring about students, claiming that Shoukri was not at the rally, and that by not being at the rally to address students, he was being silent in the face of racism.
Shoukri was in fact present and in the crowd, and in response to this criticism, he moved toward the stage. When he reached the front, he was seen speaking to the organizers. He was seen asking for the opportunity to address the assembled students but was apparently refused, after which he walked away. One of the organizers yelled that the rally was about African issues and for Africanized people to speak out against marginalization. Shoukri, whose undergraduate degree is from Cairo University, was born in Egypt.

Organizers then demanded that the media leave, accusing reporters of looking to sensationalize the story and looking for the picture of an angry person for [their] front pages.

After the rally, York students explained to a reporter that they felt Shoukri should have spoken out immediately following the discovery of the graffiti, and that some of what happened at the rally was an expression of frustation at an alleged slow response from the university.
The hateful graffiti is a reminder that even at an institution of higher learning, we are not immune from hate, Shoukri told reporters after the rally. We must work together, each of us, to find ways to ensure this never happens again.

The York Federation of Students, following the graffiti incident and three recent reported sexual assaults, is demanding that York University hire Toronto's Metropolitan Action Committee on Violence Against Women and Children to conduct a third party safety audit of the campus.
Alex Bilyk, Director of Media Relations for York, stated the university will conduct a third party audit, though the contract to conduct the audit will be put out to tender.

That graffiti was put by the same blacks who reported it. White people do not call black people "niggas" but with a solid "er" at the end. Blacks call blacks the "nigga" term.

I just love how Canada is importing American identity politics. Damn, we are so pathetic that we can't even figure out a non-American way to hate each other.

Stupid.

If the same Black (African-Canadian?) students that protested the graffiti put it up themselves, more power to them. That's some genius politicking if they did. It certainly got them support and press for their issues, didn't it?

I believe they say "Afro-Canadian". Gotta put their own spin on it, or else look like your copying the Great Satan.

I've read about a few cases like this. A professor in LA did it to her own car and in Philadelphia a prof did it to his office door.

I guess after seeing so many "false flag" operations at the top, it was only a matter of time before they'd trickle down to the common folk.

As a former student of York University, when will this madness stop? There was the campus stabbing of 2006, the rapes of 2007. The constant muggings and assaults, Israel/Gaza riots, and racist graffiti.

While you're probably correct about that in general, I wouldn't take it as positive proof that the graffiti was a false flag. If it's the case that whites NEVER spell "nig ger" that way, wouldn't the black students group be aware of that, and render the hoax accordingly?

In this day and age, I could imagine the word being spelled that way by a white racist who grew up around hip-hop culture, and just sort of regards that as the default spelling.

Koffi Taha, Nick Haddad, et-al did it at Wesleyan University, too, in Spring of 1989.
