I'm starting to plan some lessons for the new school year starting next month and have been contemplating whether or not to use the same lessons as last year (with some changes to make them better).
Do you public school teachers do a complete overhaul of your lessons every year or do you tweak things slightly and throw in a new lesson once in a while? |

I'm staying at my PS for another year, and am planning on tweaking. I have two notebooks with all my lesson plans from the last two semesters, so I'll just keep those out when writing my new LPs. |

I reckon the more I teach a lesson plan the better the lesson becomes.
By the same reasoning, if I was staying at this school then I would re-use and improve the lessons taught this year.
The curriculim isn't going to change, although we can throw in good stuff for the more advanced kids. |

I plan to teach the same thing to the incoming sophomores (grade 1s) this year. Last year I taught the same material to both grades 1 and 2, so I'll have to think of a creative way to recycle what the grade 2s have likely forgotten over the break...
So yes, the bulk of my classes are already planned! |

My lesson plans are pretty much done for me...however I do write down what worked and what didn't after every class. Then the next time around alter the plan slightly to take what worked and throw out what didn't. |

I could use the same lesson plan everyday for the year and most of kids wouldn't notice. |

I would if I had a good stash of plans. Working on building up a good stash of plans.
At times like this I want to kick myself because I'm so lazy...but I'm too lazy. |

Totally all for tweaking. Why reinvent the wheel?
But, at the same time you have to have the initiative to say 'Oh, I remember that lesson was total crap - it needs a complete overhaul or a whole new lesson'.
It help to keep a reflective journal of your lessons too. I scoffed at this when I was first introduced to the concept while training but then came to totally swear by it. |

Hell yes. If you hand in a big notebook with all your plans and Ideas in it your boss/handler will think you're more of a pro than some monkey teaching day to day, stuff he got from the internet the night before (both of which I've done). |
