Can you get OTC medicine in Korea? I've checked Homeplus, and it seems to be lacking the familiar aisle of medication I'm so used to back home. Is there any way to get medicine without seeing a doctor? There's only one pharmacy in the small town I live in, and I don't think they speak English. There's no drugs out on display, like a pharmacy back home would have either, so I'm kind of confused.

I'm specifically looking for Hemroid cream. Embarassed

Go to the pharmacy and tell them what you need. If they don't speak English, show them the word in a Korean dictionary.

To get any kind of OTC or prescription medicine, you have to go to a pharmacy.

I have found they offer cold medicine and some other stuff without a prescription. Not a lot really. Most of it is hocus pocus and animal horns, bones, roots, etc. For 'stamina'.

Cold medicine is worthless. I'm pretty sure there have been a lot of studies published that said cold medicine was about as effective as a placebo.

I went to the clinic once and since I have a problem with bronchitis from time to time, I kept the papers and show the pharmacy. They seem to have a few over the counter things like that. A big let-down was that I was told by my boss (how true this is, not so sure but I couldn't find it) is that Pepto-Bismol is not over the counter... for something like that you need a prescription... BUT there is a stronger form of the stuff that is made for hangovers that is over the counter... winos.

Most of the cold meds in Korea are 95% acetaminophen with a little bit of Mahuang...
"Man I feel better! What's in this stuff anyways?"
"pain killers and uppers..."

I was drinking and taking korean pills, until I read about liver damage. But for a few weekends life was good!
