Is it more valuable to get a Masters in English or TESOL?

I am thinking of getting a Masters in English because it may prove more lucrative and flexible. If I wanted some serious raises in Korea though which would be better? What online (accredited) school would you recommend for a Masters in TESOL?

I like taking English classes because I always get As or Bs in them and that is not the case with other subjects. Would TESOL classes be drastically different than English classes in terms of how you have to learn and course content?

Read the program websites. The interwebs is powerful.

If you are an experienced teacher, I think the Masters in English is more prestigious.

I haven't seen any online English Masters programs, though.

May want to consider history or sociology as well, I heard LMB wants all schools to teach several subjects other than language in English.

I would think of it more as "what are your long term goals." I would imagine that either Masters would offer the same raises. The TESOL classes would be very different than the English classes, as you are training yourself to be a teacher rather than being a student.

Also, everyone I know who has gone for a Masters in English have continued to get their PhD. The logic being what does a Masters in English enable you to do? Ok, it gives you a raise in Korea, but are you staying here forever?

How much of a raise would you expect to get from your employer if you got a Masters in English?

I eventually would like to work for a magazine or cable station so the Masters in English would definitely help me.

Online....I really think online isn't a good investment. If you are going to do an online program make sure it is from your own country. After you go home ...then it is still useful. Most companies seem to not value the degrees that were earned online from other countries.
It is easier to impress a company with a degree from a school they actually know...not some weird school in a far away country.
