|
|
My girlfriend and I are planning to make our next move back to her homeland of Canada but I am from the US.
We've been living together for 2 years, but, the problem is, we need to prove it. All the bills, apartment and such have been in her school's name and furthermore they are in Korean.
If any of you have any good ideas for establishing proof of common-law partner while here in Korea it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

First off, I'm pretty sure the word you're looking for is common law, not conjugal (that's for prison visits, and Canada really isn't that bad)
I guess you need to prove it to immigration? I'm not sure, but dated photographs of you two together, maybe a couple of testimonials from friends ( ideally Canadian friends) |

That is true, the term is common-law.
Photos might work since we have a lot of those. Their website doesn't mention it so I wonder if anyone has had success that way.
The problem we have in proving a common-law relationship is that they ask for proof of joint bank account, joint rental payment, joint house purchase etc. All stuff that doesn't seem possible for us to do together here.
btw, they do allow for 'conjugal' partners too, and it doesn't quite mean bringing convicts over to Canada. |

Look in the same book that CIC uses. The criteria are all there along with options.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/op/op02e.pdf
The alternative (since you are a US citizen) is for you to enter Canada as a tourist and make an application for landed immigrant status as in in-country applicant.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/canadian_immigration/ is a good place to go for information.
