Ill confess that one reason I ended up in Korea and stayed, rather than Japan, is that I prefer bbq pork to raw fish, i.e., assuming Im likely to eat one or the other 2 or 3 times a week.

They also do chicken good, and I only resort to KFC occasionally, for homesickness alleviation. (The Colonels 11 herbs and spices are the same as when I was 7 years old.) The mother-in-law makes such a mean daelk doritang, youd thank me for inviting you over.

Cant get near enough to the boiled silkworm cocoons the smell of beondeagi, fahgeddabahdit but I like just about every other Korean food. (Lets talk about dog soup another time, another place. Please?)

Whats your favorite? Or what do you hate the most?

While youre at, why not a tip about your favorite place? And how to get there, what to order?

Or, you could just sing a song

The Bobsters Korean Side-dish Blues

Oh, ah loves to eat that han-shik
And Ill eat it every day
Put lotsa little dishes on the table, yeah,
Honey, THATs the only way!

Just give me that banchan, baby
GOTS ta have them noodles, veggies and kimchee
Ah ha hum
Twenty-seven tiny dishes on the table, yo,
Thats the ONLY way its gotta be!

You can keep your goyangee soju
And your bosintang mojo, too
But if I dont see me lotsa banchan
I just DONT know what Ill do!

Be sure to bring me that ban-chan, baby
Yow, a little bit of mushrooms, tofu and chiggae
Ah ha hum
If you cant bring me a lotta banchan, darlin
You better have SOMEthin important to say.

Dont want no French fried taters,
Sure nuff, no Shepherds Pie
And if I dont see me some banchan
Yer like to see ol Bobster start to cry.

Just give me that banchan, baby
GOTS ta have them noodles, veggies and kimchee
Ah ha hum
Twenty-seven tiny dishes on the table, yo,
Thats the ONLY way its gotta be

Well, my woman gives me bokbun-ju
With a little ddankong on the plate
And over soju in the pochang macha
Im havin ahltang with my mates.

But at dinner I want that banchan, baby
Lawd, Ah loves them kimchee, noodles an such
Ah ha hum
And if you wont bring me lotsa banchan
The Bobster aint gonna like you very much.

I said I want banchan
Yeah, baby, lots of banchan
Yeah, give me banchan.
Lots and lots and lots of banchan.
I said banchan

Thank you, thank you vurry much. Well be here every night this week. Be careful drivin home, yall. Hear?

yangnyum chicken is great.

sangyeopsal is good, but better at some places than others. A great place in Yeouido, i'll find out the name, they got a special sauce.

galbi is great.

daegi bulgogi is a good change of pace from regular bulgogi.

yaki mandu is good, but absolutely delicious at one place in yeundongpo, a restaurant named buk-chang-won.

but right now, I really want me some mexican food Embarassed

I cook most of my own food, because Korean food is largely not vegetarian-friendly.

BUT! When it is, it's good stuff. I vote for bibimbap! Yum.

Also, tofu dishes.

Out of the two poll options, I pretty much agree with both them Smile

My palate is pretty sensitive to spicy food (though its getting better) and one spice 'aint too exciting. But I like most korean dishes which don't fall into the seafood/spicy category - I guess I'm just playing with a limited deck.

Yes, I can be. Almost everything has some fish or meat in it. Soups have their stock made of fish bits or beef, and many have actual chunks of meat in it. Even kimchi has fish paste in it. Please, if you think that Korean food is so vegetarian friendly, start listing dishes that have no meat, fish or seafood in them.

Basically, a bunch of side dishes. And even then, you have to be careful about what's in your food.

Today I ate at the school cafeteria. My lunch consisted of rice and oranges. I should have just gone home. When I got back to the office, I supplemented my lunch with some apples that were hanging around.

Meanwhile, my coworkers had rice, some curry with meat in it, some meat patties of some sort, with a gravy that was probably meat based, a soup that had meat in it, and kimchi, which is not vegetarian either. Oh, and oranges as well. Usually it's not that bad, but honestly. Korean food is mostly not vegetarian friendly.

Gotta agree with just another day and Vancouver. I googled ...

vegetarian food seoul korea

240,000 hits.

Don't judge any national cuisine based on what's served at a school cafeteria. Please, don't do that.

Oh, and jad, those are great pictures by, the way. Where'd ya get 'em, and got any more? Hey, let's play a game and see how many we can name. Top one looks like ddeok guk. Anyone wanna try for the rest?

Maybe I'll do a quick looksee through my own photo album, see what pictures I have from my own restaurant safaris ...

I have been back in Canada for 2 months after 8 years in Korea.

Darn, but I miss some of the food.

Kimchi, Kimchi Chigae, red pepper paste on rice, galbi

I live i a very small town on Vancouver Island with one Chinese restaraunt. Thank heavens there is a Hotel in the next town that is owned by two Korean guys. They keep me supplied with a little kimchi.

If you are contrarian, why are you agreeing with so many people? Truth in advertising is not too much to ask.

Cool
