Hey there, got a quick question here. I am going to be graduating in May, but I am already starting to see jobs posted for when I want to go. (anytime between June and September) I imagine a lot more jobs are going to be popping up between now and May....

So, I wanted to know if I can start applying for these jobs NOW, and let them know I won't have my degree until May/June? Thanks.

yes, there are always jobs opening. at worst, applying now will give you experience in sorting good from bad.

You'd be wasting your time in actually applying for anything before you actually have the degree parchment and transcripts in hand.

Your time would be better spent doing things like reviewing the FAQs, contract review thread and just watching the job postings, seeing what is offered and perhaps taking a TESOL course.

The FAQ's could use an updating, especially since most of that was back in 2003-04. Been looking at the contact review thread too.

I guess I just wanted to know if it was possible to begin a job search now given my own circumstances rather than waiting until after May, when many "good" jobs might be snapped up by then.

With the exception of the current changes to the visa rules (and the FAQs will get updated when immigration figures out what the new rules really amount to) there aren't any real changes from 2003/2004 to now.

No reputable recruiter and no government program will even consider looking at you once they learn that you do not have your documents in hand.

The "GOOD" jobs happen year round here with the bulk of the public school hiring being done for the March and August starts but there are openings year round.

Hakwons have no hiring season. There are typically about 1000 new postings every month for hakwon jobs. 80% of them are ASAP positions because strategic planning in a hakwon means they don't even start looking for a new teacher until about 30 days before the previous teachers visa expires.

Even the government programs don't start really looking until the end of June for the August starts.

There is always a supply of good and not so good jobs to be filled, so I wouldn't worry about a post being taken. Schools are always looking. I'd agree that there's not a lot of point in looking before you have your parchment, since reputable schools usually want to see that before they agree to anything.
