just google pdp vs lcd and you will find lots of info. basically PDP is better. unless you are hooking your computer up to it. I just bought a 50" PDP and its great. Don't worry about full HD. according to what I read you won't notice the difference unless your tv is more the 55" or you are sitting really close to your tv. |

I own a 50" PDP. Up until recently, I would have said PDP. The newer Samsung models are kicking the PDPs though. Problem is, in Korea, you'll pay for a good Samsung. Look for the black panel models.
PDPs have a problem with buzzing. People often have to return them due to this. LCDs have problems with clouded white areas in the black background of the image. Samsungs seem to have fewer problems than LG. I had to return 2 LG LCDs due to the clouding issue. It really was a problem. I ended up going with a PDP just to get a set that didn't have clouds. But now I wish I had 1080p again. The detail was really great.
Samsung also jack the import prices on their main competition (Sony) and it's impossible to find Toshiba, Pioneer, or any Panasonic. Samsung does its best to keep these companies out of here (my guess). The other choice is LG, and they just aren't in Samsung's league with PDP or LCD.
I have owned both a 1080p and a 1080i (768p set). In my honest opinion, you should go with a 1080p set. |

Problem is, you really have to pay through the nose for the best here.
Pioneer is the best, and Sony and Samsung are tied at a very close second. You can't even get Pioneer (or at least, I haven't seen them around).
Don't bother with 1080p if your set is smaller than 42". |

I haven't noticed humming from my pdp. I was worried about that. but so far it hasn't been an issue. |

I had all of the internals replaced on this one until they got rid of it. Four service calls total. My coworker had even more issues with his set. Neither of us will buy from LG again. |

lcd's have more of a blurring effect for fast paced action. I'be heard even the newer 120hz models still have this problem. |

Well, I can only speak for the Sony sets, but the whole 120hz/30fps thing makes movies look like home video to me. Really disgusting. Some people swear by it, though.
The real difference coming down the pipe in a year or two is "deep color" as well as 3D TVs. The 3Ds are already out, as I understand it. Some blu-ray movies already have this capability, and you need to wear a pair of 3D glasses to see it. Everything I've read says it's much better than the old 3D movies from times past. Will be curious to see it for myself.
LCDs can suffer from "motion blur," as was stated. It depends on the make and model. It's one of the reasons why most of the footage in stores is slow zooms and pans on flowers and bugs.
Try to watch a real action flick for a demo. |
