I'm look at buying some computer speakers, but I'm not keen on lugging some computer speakers (no matter how compact) with my to Korea.

Any suggestions on where to buy a pretty nice set of speakers to drown out loud neighbors (possibly retaliate back with rock and roll) and just listen to good music? Stores in the Seoul area? Like huge computer stores? Preferably near Bundang, but willing to make quite an adventure for a pretty sweet store.

Are you looking for an ipod dock that doubles as computer speakers?

If so www.ilounge.com is a great place to check stuff out.

I have two setups for my computer and ipod(s):

JBL ontime. Very good sound, built in alarm clock, looks great too. Its good, and I got it way cheaper than retail but if you are paying retail there are better options. The biggest downsides are the price and the lack of a remote.

my other is a basic Altec Lansing speaker/dock combo. its really small and lightweight and for the size and price it produces decent volume. The downside for this one are that it's sound quality degrades rapidly at higher volumes.

For the price the JBL onstage is a good option, with decent sound and great portability. They can be had really cheap on eBay too.

If you are an audiophile I would reccomend:

Bowers and Wilkins zepplin speakers- expensive but the sound quality is great even at loud volumes.

Klipsch RoomGroove Wireless Speaker System: Good sound, reasonable pricing and expandable wirelessly.

Chestnut Hill Sound GEORGE Audio Speaker System: lots of features, great sounding, looks good and also features a full alarm. If I was in the market, this is what I would buy. Not cheap though.

if you don't want to spend alot, Korea has plenty of cheap PC speakers. Some suck while others are a pretty good deal.

Not bad little speakers all for under 100$. I think you can get the BR-1000 for 20, the BR-3100 for 30$. Not sure about the other two.

This company doesn't have an English site or any reviews in English so you'll have to trust me. Some Korean PC speaker companies are good while others are junk. I like Britz. I was abit of a audio junky back home (my stereo was more expensive than my car) and I'm pretty happy with my cheap Britz speakers.

I own the BR-3100s. The sub is big enough for a small appartment and the mids/tweeters are small enough for your desk top with enough midrange (not a lot, but sub and sat systems usually don't have much mid while bass is often boomy, more mid than many other sat systems though) and the tweeters are pretty good. I moved to a bigger pad and picked up a pair of BR1000 for free and teamed them up with my BR-3100. They are bookshelf style and they offer more mid range and with more speakers the system seems to fill my place nicely. Cost me 30$ and sounds great.

The BR-4900 is pretty cool, the amp is seperate and can be placed in a more conveinient place, it also has a bigger sub wich should be a little less boomy and a little more full than mine. The mids and tweeters are about the same. Costs 55$

The BR-4700 are pretty big, cost about 45$. They have good sound from the bass through the mids to the highs. Good choice to fill a room cheaply but not really a PC speaker, not really book shelf speakers and not really Hi-fi. Kinda odd lookin in my books, but they are a good stand alone set up for an MP3 player.

Ahh! I'm listening to Itunes on my desktop right now through a 5.1 channel Creative Inspire GD580 DTS system. The Creative setup is good for movies too. I have a good soundcard, so that helps. I picked it up in Yongsan well over a year ago for 125,000krw. It used to be my sound system for my TV and DVD, but got relegated to computer duty after I upgraded to an HD Pavv LCD TV and a Glanz DTS tower system. In all honesty, this compact system sounds every bit as good as the towers.

As a sidenote, as others have mentioned you can get good speakers here. There is no need to lug something over. Just shop around Yongsan and listen to the system prior to buying. Good luck!
