I'm leaving in 8 days and as I think about my experiences here and the people that I've met, I just have to say that ALL of my experiences with the U.S. soldiers here have been good.
My best friend here ended up being a woman who was in the 8th Army band. She introduced me to her church, which became my church. A wonderful officer and his family invited me and the other teachers over for an American lunch after church each and every Sunday.
I danced with nice guys in a couple of the Itaewon bars. Guys who didn't try to make it with me on the dance floor, and guys who called when they said that they would call. Guys who didn't act like I'd ripped them off if they bought me a drink and didn't put out.
In short, I think that the U.S. military gets a bad rap here and a lot of English teachers seem to enjoy putting them down, but my experience in Korea was greatly enhanced by its presence here...and not just because I got to go to Taco Bell a couple of times. |

As a veteran and formally stationed soldier here in Korea, I'm glad that you had good experiences and thank you for the thread.
Oh yeah, good luck with your future endeavors! |

I know I've been on both sides of the fence and there are some rowdy soldiers, however, there's also a shorter leash for them by more rules and curfews they have to follow, so I guess it goes both ways. |

The truth is that I've stayed committed to being celibate while here in Korea. So, yes, my standards are high. |

Remember to pray to Christ whenever you think of sinful thoughts. Just thinking sinful pleasures of the flesh is pretty much like doing it. |

Well, if you're really ugly, that shouldn't be too difficult. |

I don't get it.
Do you think you deserve free drinks or something?
Acceptance of a drink means "I'm interested".
If you don't like it, buy them a drink instead. Equal rights and whatnot.
Also, what the hell does going to church have to do with anything? I find mostly liars go to church, it helps them feel better about their deceit. |

Keep on grinding that axe, I'm sure the G-man is really interested in your opinion. |

I always have a hard time seeiing how soldiers and church go together. Its like Monday to Saturday -kill , kill ,kill kill and Sunday- though shall not kill. What could the problem be? Maybe it has something to do with the split personality Christiantity produces. Talking about Church and being a drunk tease all in the same post. Pretty much sums up the disorders that American church people suffer from. Christianity doesn't work because it splits you into good and bad elements that function from different poles. |

I think it has a lot to do with repressing basic human desires. Like the need to have fun and to have sex. That's probably why you see guys like Ted Haggard going on and on about how homosexuals will burn in hell for eternity, then go and have sex with male prostitutes.
Hell, I knew a girl in high school all about Jesus. She was caught in the back of a bronco getting tag teamed, then not even a month later getting tagged by a horse. |
