I found a new employer. My school agreed to give me a letter of release to transfer the visa. My contract and ARC expires on March 1st, but my last actual teaching day is February 15th. My new contract starts March 3rd. If I have the letter of release dated for February 16th does that mean my school doesn't have to pay any severance? Also can they prorate my last months salary and deduct two weeks of pay. Shouldn't make a difference if I leave early or not since I am not needed to teach.
Also, does the severance have to be paid on the last working day? I hear from another teacher that they may decide deposit it in my foreign bank account a month or two after my contract expires. Something to do with making sure all of my bills have been paid. My previous employer paid everything, last pay check and severance as a package on the last teaching day of class.
Any suggestions regarding severance and changing employers? |

You do not need to be released to start a new job on March 3rd if your old job finishes on March 1st. You are going to lose two weeks pay plus your severance for sure. |

what if I have the LOR dated for February 29th? Will I still lose my severance. The whole purpose behind the LOR is to avoid the visa run to Japan. The LOR has not been officially written, however I did get my school to provide me a dated work report in both English and Korean which states I was employed by them From March 2 2007 to March 1 2008. I can get the LOR at any time I want without any problems, I just need to decide on which date I should put on it.
I got one from my first employer two years ago because transferring my visa here to my current employer using a LOR and received no problems. My previous school paid me until the end of the month and severance plus reimbursed a me the cost of a return ticket back to Canada. This was all provided on my last teaching day. I just hope I won't have any problems with this school come my final pay. |

I'm not qualified to answer this.
So you can transfer a visa instead of getting a new one by using some sort of release letter? |

Yes you can transfer and extend your current E2 visa with a letter of release.
However given my situation, I need to make sure that getting the letter of release doesn't give my present employer to rip me off out of 6 weeks of pay. That's a lot of money. |

I talked to the school. I told them that I would stay until the end of my contract but would be transferring my visa as soon as classes are over. All I can do is hope they don't turn cheap and refuse the pay. |
