Will everything shut down in Jeju during the lunar new year or would it be an alright destination? I have this feeling that maybe the whole country will shut down or something....but not sure about Jeju.
Anyone know? |

Nah. There's a huge fire festival. It was the isht last year! Basically, imagine setting an enormous hill on fire with gasoline while everyone gets hammered... |

I'm thinking about heading to Jeju myself. Problem is, I have no idea what to do when I get there. |

I was thinking about going to Jeju next week, during my vacation. Is the best to go to fly? Can you take a boat from Busan? I kinda wanted to check out Busan too. |

There are lots of things to see on Jeju, but it can be better if you have a car. Driving around here's pretty easy once you get outside of Jeju-si. Any of the main tourist info places should have a decent map of the island with some cool (and not so cool) places to see.
If you do come over and rent a car, I recommend NOT taking the coastal road the entire time, at least on the east side south of Ilchulbong. The road is nice, there view's good, but there number of illogical red lights are annoying. I find the interior roads much more scenic.
Climbing Hallasan is nice, but you may want to pick up some crampons (those metal spike thingies for you boots, you can get a cheap pair at Emart) since it gets a bit icy up there.
Sadly, for those coming for the Lunar New Year, the fire festival won't be happening until Feb. 21-23rd.
If you want to take a look at some info (I hope this link works) check out:

Wow, that's a long link. Sorry for breaking the page. It takes a bit to load, but has the info about the fire festival.
Oh, and just remember, even though Jeju can be a bit warmer than other places, it's still winter here, and cold. |

If you make it for the fire festival, you should have a good time.
Otherwise (weather-wise) I'm guessing it will be:
a) windy
b) cold and windy
c) sunny and windy
d) nice. some days are just beautiful. but a bit windy
Actually, it's not always windy here, and you can get some really amazing weather where it's great to be out and about hiking the oreums and such. Is that your thing? Because if not the beaches will be pretty cold (although the water is pretty nice. Went swimming in January).
Any of the "attractions" will likely be less crowded than in summer.
And if you'd want to go up Hallasan, now's the time to make it to the peak. |
