The Giuliani Implosion
http://real-us.news.yahoo.com/s/weeklystandard/20080116/cm_weeklystandard/thegiulianiimplosion_1

Great ending to this article:

Quote:
In order to correct for his social liberalism, Giuliani tacked as far right on national security and economic issues as he could. But the social liberalism turned off conservatives, and the foreign policy and economic conservatism turned off moderates and liberals. And Giuliani was left alone.

Maybe the other reason is that every other word out of his mouth was 9/11. If he implodes, I'll be happy. Feb 6th we'll throw a party for him.

The weird thing was I actually use to like Guiliani solely because of his social liberalism. Many Republicans from northern states are generally socially liberal. Mitt Romney use to be for Massachussets until he went national and decided he better join in line with the right wing lobbyist groups like the NRA and so on.

Guiliani went way over to the right wing nutcase board of things pushing for more contractors and more military involvement and more oil-invested wars. It kinda sorta worked for Bush, and they all seem to think thats the way it is now.

Kerry never offered a new direction, that was his problem. He campaigned as Bush Lite with all the same policies covering up the good things he really wanted to do. If it wasn't for that, the Bush stuff would have ended 3 years ago instead of next year.

My opinion anyways.

The Guillani support went to McCain.

When McCain was doing badly it went to Guillani.

If the support was going to Ron Paul then this would really be news.

Guiliani looked pretty good in the CNN youtube debate, but then he disappeared.

They say his strategy is to focus on a Florida win.

Who knows.

Will a Florida win suddenly resurrect his campaign in a big way? I know it's a state with a large population, but what do you think of his strategy?

Honestly, I don't think it will. Even if he won Florida, he'd have to make a modest showing in the Feb 5th states. His strategy to blow off the first few primaries will backfire. If I'm wrong, I'll eat your shoe

I think his strategy has a chance of working, but only because no one else has grabbed the lead. If one candidate had started to look like a winner by carrying a couple of the 4 states by respectable margins, then he'd have had 'momentum' and be difficult to stop. As it is, no one is the front runner and Giuliani has an opening to squeeze through.

What might happen is that McCain, Romney and Giuliani might divide the votes between them and leave Huckabee looking pretty strong.

That is very possible . You could also count Fred Thomson in with McCain, Romney and Giuliani . which would make things even more complicated still.

I'm cheering for Ron Paul, but am afraid that the Huckster will take the bored again vote in the south. That would really suck!

You might as well cheer for polio. They've both been effectively eradicated.
