What do US citizens get and where do I get it?

Quote:

With the exception of Canadians, all EPIK teachers are exempt from paying Korean income tax for the first two years of their employment in Korea. If you have previously worked for more than two years in Korea, you will not be eligible for this exemption.

Where to get: from the jurisdictional taxation department in your home country

Do they want me to get something from the IRS?

File a form 8802 with the IRS.

flicknut,

Just to let you know, it takes about 4 - 6 weeks to process, so someone may have to send it to you in Korea. Also, follow the instructions carefully according to whether or not you filed your 2007 return yet.

Yes, and be sure to actually write out the sworn statement (under line 10) that this certification is given under penalties of perjury and to the best of my knowledge and belief...blah, blah, blah!

I'm certainly hoping it will take less than the 45 days...just sent mine out yesterday!

Good Luck!

This will be for next year's taxes? It's my 1st time teaching in Korea-- will 1st-timers have to do this next year?

Or does this mean we have to pay the taxes and then get it back when we are done teaching?

I'm a bit confused. Sorry.
