How soon should you/can you/do you get the money from your school for the flight home after a contract is finished? How far in advance should this be discussed and done? For me I'll be using the money to go to another country, not home, so I'm thinking about that. thanks

i've got the same question. but i believe they give u a flight ticket back to your home country, and not just the money.

does anyone know the chances of getting said plane ticket and then either getting a refund or postponing the departure date (to allow for travel before heading home)?

I want to head to London instead of back home - I'm trying to get them to buy the ticket and I'll pay the difference (about 100,000 won).

What's the deal if you are signing another contract?

Do you get a two week holiday in the new contract with a return flight home?

I don't think it's possible to get a ticket to another destination. Since the school is buying it, if you try to get a refund from Korean air, they'll give it to the school. I could be wrong though.

If your a Gepik teacher. You buy the ticket home and the school will reimburse you 10 days after you leave the country. It's in the contract.

That's not what my contract says. It says they will pay for a ticket as long as you leave within ten days. Nothing about reimbursing you.

When I left my school I told them that I was going to a central European country (where I came to Korea from) even though in the contract it said my country of origin. I bought a fully refundable ticket, showed them the receipt and promptly returned the ticket for a great time in China before using the rest of the money to take the trans-siberian to my destination.

No problems whatsoever. If you really want to know just ask them.

Here's how it worked for me.

1. make a reservation and print it out.
2. give a copy of the reservation to your school.
3. they pay you the money via bank transfer.
4. pay for the ticket.
5. make a copy of your ticket and give it to your school.

6. cancel the ticket and get a refund.
7. book another flight to your preferred destination (Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, etc.)
8. be gone.

If you're finishing your contract at the end of February, then now is the best time to start #1.
