I don't want to jailbreak it or void the warranty...

1: You can update your firmware, regardless of the country you live in.

2: If you want to use the iTunes music store, you only need to register your account with a credit card from your home country.

I specifically want the ipod touch software upgrade for $20. The website specifically states there must be an itunes store in the country I reside in. Korea doesnt have an intunes store.

I'd love to be proven wrong / stupid cuz I want to pay instead of jailbreak it.

You're misinterpreting what they mean. Koreans can only use the Korean iTunes store. You (assuming you are in fact a foreigner) can use your home country's iTunes store.

there is no korean itunes store. so it's impossible to get the upgrade unless if you have a credit card issued in an itunes friendly country and the address under the card is the same country.

I talked to itunes support last week, and they apologized for this inconvenience. LAME

so i got fed up and jailbroke mine. was painless, did it in less then an hour, and i am pretty happy with the results.

the software upgrade works as advertised except most of the functionalities in google maps.

only the satellite view works because google has no map data of korea. to get full functionality you must live in the US.

I was able to get the software upgrade but sorry! I'm not sure how I did it exactly.

I turned sync on then off. I authorized my computer for iTunes. I emailed Apple support with my apple id and told them about my problem but didn't get a reply. Maybe their reply was to allow their system to let me get the upgrade?

Then a few hours later I reset and next time I started up iTunes it automatically asked me if I wanted to buy the upgrade, the way it should have worked the first time.

My touch was a little weird when I first got it too. It worked the first time through iTunes, but the second time I plugged it in the touch become unresponsive. I had to delete everything then restore on a different computer. Now it works fine on my computer. I don't know why but I read on a forum that that worked for someone else too.

These bugs are not minor problems but that being said I still think it rocks and so do my friends that look at it. I'm a sucker for fancy little stuff and owning something other people think is cool. Laughing
