I am in need of some advice. I am looking to get back into painting while i am here and was wondering if anyone could lead me in the right direction of an art supplies store. I am looking for some good oil, and acrylic paints, brushes, and some canvas. I live In Seoul near Shinchon and Hongdae. Thanks for your help

Well you're in luck, there's a great store right in your neighbourhood. Go up to the main gate of Hongik University, and turn right (if you're facing the gate). About a block down the way there's a store called HOPI Art (or something like that) that has a great selection of all the kinds of supplies you'd need. The staff speaks no English, but they're always super friendly to me. You can recognize it by the easels standing outside Wink Just note that it's not open on Sundays.

Enjoy!

Did you ever get to that art supply store near Hongik University? I'm looking for non-drying modeling clay. This country makes it SO hard to find anything!

you should get a korean friend to help order as it's cheaper to buy from the internet than the store.

There's a HUGE art supply store in Hongdae as well. Find the Starbucks near the station (the old Hongdae Starbucks) and face directly away from the door. Cross the street and go straight, and it's on your right.

Hongdae's got loads of supply shops. I was up there on the weekend and found plenty on either side of the gate - though personally, I found more when I went left, not right.

A lot of the stores in Hongdae are expensive though. Go to Dongdaemun Stadium. Look really carefully through all the rubbish they sell in the massive second hand market. You might get lucky and get away with a steal. I found some really inexpensive Oils there.

Yeah i just went today in fact. its called Homi art suply, really good deals on all kinds of paints and the canvases are super cheap too. Everything is about half of what i paid back in the states. as far as the non drying molding clay i am not sure. I am going back in a few days and ill take a look.
