Well, I'm in the US and about to go back to Kimchiland. But before I head back to work on another contract, I wanted to improve my chances of future work there by bringing several extra notarized copies of my degree. (I actually took several of them with me in 2006, learning after that hogwans and the Korean gub'ment use them like tissues)
Anyway, the new Mrs. Bailsibub and I went to the Korean embassy with all the stuff I needed before (copies, transcripts, my actual degree, etc.) to get the copies notarized. Well, we walk in and they tell us that they no longer do it and that I needed to go to the State Department or my state government to get them done.
Considering all the fake degree BS that took place throughout 2007, one would think that the Korean embassy itself would want to verify the documents being submitted to the government back home were authentic. I actually told the dude at the embassy that all of this was strange, and he just looked at me with that "you just made me lose the face" look.

They wanted someone else to foot the bill for their new visa policies when they asked the foreign embassies to process all the paperwork. I think that might be what's going on with the embassy you went to. Besides, the policies might not be about improving the quality of teachers. Some suspect it's really about cutting the hagwons out of the equation by making it impossible for many of them to get teachers. |

How ridiculous that your degree isn't already on file with Immigration. Why do you have to produce it again? I never understood that. How difficult would it be to scan the degree and keep it on file for years to come. Same with Transcripts. |
