What is it like teaching at this school? I interviewed with them today and it seemed alright. Meant to ask about maximum teaching hours, faculty housing, and vacations, but just wasnt able to get around to it. Nerves got to me. Here's their ad: http://www.eslcafe.com/jobs/korea/index.cgi?read=28509 . Anyone care to comment? |

I had a coworker who taught there a couple of years. Sorry I can't remember why he left. I think it had to do with a contract change. He has been at our uni for about 2 1/2 years since. We're just down the street from there (well near Hyewha, anyway). Interesting they are asking for a Masters now. He doesn't have one. Maybe that has something to do with why he left. I don't know. |

So is my Uni (Hyewha that is)- Sungshin is in a nice area and the contract looks decent.
Not sure about the drama during summer vacation though. That's rather vague. |

Just curious: Won't they accept the legally notarized and consulate approved copy of a diploma? I don't keep my original degree here, much less for a freaking interview! |

They said they won't accept them, and asked me to contact the registrar's office at my university for official copies. |

The funny thing is that "official copies" from the registrars office are what I have, which have then been sent to the Secretary of State, which were then sent to the consulate in the US for approval. This was the procedure before the new apostille ordeal. |

I visited that campus once, and I have to say there were some of the most incredible looking women I've ever seen.
You may argue that this has nothing to do with working conditions; I will argue this has a lot to do with working conditions. |

I received a private message, but cannot answer it because I have not met the 25 posting quota yet. So, I will answer the question here without giving away any secret identities.
Pay is in the 30 million to 35 million won range. The MA is required as far as the ad goes, but something was mentioned at the interview about BA holders receiving a lower salary.
Should have asked about housing. On the overall, I got a good no-nonsense vibe out of the whole thing. This is not a small school, but the department offices are in my opinion.
No idea about the number of people they will be taking on. But the interviewers did say they presently have a large number of foreign teaching faculty. Nine people altogether. |

Perfectly natural observation, but I would express a word of caution about reflecting that at their interviews. They gave me a very strong impression that its not tolerated there. |

He was in the Language Center, not the English Department.

Since it's here you're living and working as a language teacher, it's not much use anywhere else, is it?
Just two months out of high school?! |

A no-nonsense interview. Curious to know what apartments are like in the area. |

It's not here for a number of reasons, including I have (or had until the new Immi regulations) multiple legal copies accepted by Korean immigration (which should suffice for any school) and it is safer at home, no traveling, bending, greedy supervisor seeking hands.
It's being put to good use where it is, hanging on a wall, ready to be used in the future instead of haphazardly handled in a country that doesn't seem to understand its value. |

In what sense? If you mean apartments proper, they're the same all over the country, aren't they?

As theirs isn't of such value it's only natural they assume the same of ours until they learn otherwise. |

Shhh!
Do you want all of the Itaewon/ Hongdae creeps descending upon our little North Seoul bird-watching paradise?
Oh, if only I was younger... thinner... better looking... could speak Korean... halfway cool... well you get the idea. |
