| I know its early, but with my summer vacation i am going to go to China, Most likely either Shanghai, or Kumming. Does anyone know what i will need to do in order to enter the country. And where the Chinese embassy is in Seoul. I am from the US. Any help you can give would really be appreciated! Oh and if dont go to China i will go to Thailand, any info for there too would be great too |

You'll need to get yourself a visa. I just got mine for 120,000. I dropped my pasport off at the travel agency and went back a week later to pick up. Easy as pie.  |

| wow 120,000 that much, is it true you can only go there twice in 90 days with a tourist visa? Where is the embassy? |

It's only 120 if you are an american citizen. Cheaper for other countries.
And no, you can go in and out as a tourist for as many times as you'd like... |

| I'm a US citizen and paid 70,000 last year, January 2007. Other countries got charged 50,000. |

| I just went in Oct and visa was $100 for US passport holders. Travel agency will let you know how much it is now. |

| I got a Chinese Visa just last week (first week in Jan 2008), and it is 100,000 won for Americans, 35,000 won for Koreans. If you go through a travel agency, they add in a commission (i.e. if you paid 120,000 won, the travel agent gets 20,000). I applied directly to the Chinese Consulate in Busan. I dropped off my passport with my application on a Wednesday, and it was ready for pickup the following Monday. Easy as pie. |

anyone here going to beijing during the summer? it would be good to soak up the atmosphere no doubt. But how are things like travel, accommodation going to be like during that time?
I was thinking of going for about a week and then to Shanghai for about a week after that. |

I think a week in Shanghai is too long and you could get a much better feel for China if you went elsewhere but do what you want to do. If you are there in August try and make the beer festival in Qingdao. |

i thought i would do a week in shanghai and a week in beijing and when im done in korea ill probably check out east to west for another 2 weeks. i may through hong kong into the mix this summer as well.
im mainly into the historical aspects of seeing a country, relics and monuments etc

You've got no shot in Beijing during the Olympics. Hotels that normally charge $80 a night are charging $500 at that time. |

i just checked on hostel bookers dot com and rooms are going for between $30-$60 a night in a dorm 
but they are available nonetheless. thanks for the heads up rumple. |
