Male/Female ratios in Asia.. and how Korea is setting the trend to reverse the thinking in other similar Asian countries - China, Vietnam, India, etc. |

I have heard this view as well. People say daughters are more dutiful and sons are neglectful.
I also heard a joke about a 'point system' of 2 children.
1. Daughter then a son = 200
2. Son then a daughter = 100
3. Son then a son = 100
4. Daughter then another daughter = 0.
Thr reasoning is that the older daughter can help raise the 'little prince'. |

There is a teacher in my school that has 3 sons all under the age of 6. He tells me often that he wished that he had 2 daughters and 1 son instead. He just wants the one son to continue his branch and that's all. Otherwise, he thinks most boys are pretty useless. |

Yes, we've all heard this before, "Korea's not like that anymore - Korea's changing). Hmmmmm.
Korea's Confucian culture prefers sons. Period (reasons = traditional ancestor worship rites and sons are parent's prefered pension funds).
If you think attitudes to female abortions are changing (and you work at a public school) ask the Korean teachers who there children are. Invariably you'll see that many Koreans still have a 'miracle' gene that only produces sons. |

I have only noticed so in very rich people. I teach some rich kids 1-1 lessons, and many of them have no siblings. |

Everyone knows women in this country are harder workers, and do it for less pay than men. |

not a situation I'd limit to Korea, or even Asia in general. Russia was that way. And the Middle East? All arab men do is smoke and eat nuts. |
