Anyone been to this state capital? It looks pretty cool. Looks like it might actually be one of the few American cities that isn't car-oriented and spreading out all over the place either. 30,000 people is a bit small for a city though.

Anyone been there before? Or looked into visiting? Or lived there or knew someone who did?

I think it would be kind of hard to be car-oriented if you can't drive out of the place.

But lots of people have small planes.

Kinda the only way to get around up there.

It looks like a very beautiful place to be. Bud is also legal and available there too. Great fishing, hunting, and rustic cabin lodging is also available. It appears to be very mountainous like Korea. I always wanted to go, but never had much money to my name or any work reason to go as I am not into the commercial fishing and canning industry. While it is part of the states, not many relocate there from the lower 48 just same as for Hawaii. I met several guys who used to go up there in the summer time between semesters to work and they said it was a nice natural rustic part of the world, but the work conditions and hours are horrible.

Its wicked beautiful and different. Expensive, rains alot. You actually look forward to the tourists. I went via US Navy ship. Visited Ketchican and Kodiak. The ocean is beautiful as is the sky and the clouds. Massive logs in the water. Giant monster fish.

How was Anchorage? Many things to do there? Anything that would be stereotypical of people's image of Alaska, happening in Anchorage? Moose crossings and the like?

I saw Janine Turner in a "Walker, Texas Ranger" film the other day. She's aged pretty well.

I've been there on a cruise. It's a beautiful place, but I don't know if I could handle the cold and isolation. Apparently the residents get some tax benefits to offset living there. I think that's true for Alaska as a whole.

BE VERY CAREFUL!

I RECENTLY WATCHED A DOCUMENTARY FILM CALLED '30 DAYS OF NIGHT' AND IT PROVED THAT VAMPIRES HEAD TO ALASKA TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE LACK OF SUNLIGHT AND FEAST ON HUMAN VICTIMS.

BRING A SMALL, BATTERY POWERED UV LAMP THOUGH AND YOU SHOULD BE FINE!
