Any one out there in a public school in or around seoul that is looking for new teachers?
I am looking to transfer my Visa before march 15th and heard that the only way to transfer to a public school is to do it directly to the school and with epik, gepik, smoe... is this true?
Doesnt' seem like many public schools advertise on here directly its usually recruiters or gepik, epik, smoe announcements.
Any suggestions? |

Do your resume in English/Korean and hand carry it to the schools in the neighborhood you want to work in.
IF you apply to 10 schools chances are you will get 1 or 2 interview / job offers. The staff (and most of the students) will be there next week. Look for the English room (Ah Hak Shil).

Sounds like a plan. I hope others read this thread and bypass recruiters. It's better to go to schools and handle your business without a third party whenever possible. |

OP- Let everyone know how things work out for you. Maybe you could then give advice for others in the same position. |

I have seen a few advertise here on eslcafe but they seem to be a specialist one of some sort.
Anyway, scan the job boards. |

You can also walk into the city's educational office and hand them a resume.. you may even be given a quick interview and offer on the spot. I have seen it happen. |

Yes, bypass the scumbag recruiters and talk directly to the schools. Here's GEPIK information for applying directly to GEPIK. Anyone can do this and you'll get a better choice of location and age range.

Does SMOE have a similar way of contacting them? I really want to get into the new Seoul Global High School, but I can't find any contact information that doesn't include a recruiter. |

My question now is since I am on an E2 Visa already and want to transfer the visa for a March 1st start date with smoe or gepik, do I still have to go through all the new e2 regs or can I just interview, get the contract, transfer, and start working in march?
has anyone done this yet? |

ttompatz posted good advice about how to bypass recruiters. If you are already in Korea you should avoid recruiters unless you have no other choices. There are many openings for public school teachers in
Korea. |

Not only that, there are many schools that do not have openings because they don't have a clue how to find a foreign teacher. Make it easy for them- walk in the door with your resume and sell yourself- and they might well create an opening that didn't exist, just for you. On top of that, you maybe able to negotiate a better deal than the standard contracts, because they will be responding to your proposal rather than the other way around. |
