|

My girlfriend has her medical test for her visa application tomorrow and is a little apprehensive. Does anyone know of any girls that have had this test? is it simply a blood/urine test, and an X-Ray ? or is it more invasive than this?
any info would be greatfully received |

Nope just a blood test to check whether I needed another hep. injection, a urine test and a chest xray.
The doc also listened to my heart beat & asked if I had a history of mental problems, then did an eye test & voila....all done! |

I believe it's called a stethoscope....& yep a blood pressure test as well.
I had to have a hep injection & they had one there, but if they don't have them in stock I think they will refer you to your local health clinic or somesuch. They didn't have the DPT injection at the doctor's surgery for me so I had to go to the local health clinic & chase that up myself. |

In my opinion anyone traveling outside North America without immunization against Hep A & B is crazy. The time and money it takes to get immunized is nil in comparison against the possibility of getting infected through various degrees. |

This may be a little off-topic, but on one self-assessment medical form it asks the reason for my last physician's visit. I've recently been seeing a doctor for irregular periods, but no one has been able to diagnose me with anything. How in the world would I write that on the form, if at all? Would that count against me? |

How about writing "irregular periods?" That's why you went to the doctor isn't it? I don't think you have to go into any details about findings, lack of diagnosis etc., they just ask for the reason, which is "irregular periods." |

Listen: Key to filling out medical forms in Korea--EVERYTHING IS A COLD.
I have Raynaud's Disease. Nobody in Korea knows that. I take that back....my taekwondo Master has come to understand that "it's cold, blood roads, not good." I have other things I won't discuss that my Korean doctor didn't need to know about.
All ANYONE in Korea knows re: my medical health is I've had one of the Hep shots series, I'm allergic to hydrocodone, and I play soccer and do a lot of taekwondo, oh, and I don't have HIV.
YOUR MEDICAL RECORDS ARE NOT PRIVATE HERE. Unless you want everyone and their cousin knowing and asking questions about your irregular periods, write down "cold" or "yearly wellness check."
BTW, not one doctor here has ever actually asked for a medical history. You know, those "who in your family has had what and what have you had?" forms? Apparently, Koreans don't use them. At least not for foreigners. I have had two whopping doctors ask if I was allergic to anything; those same two are the only doctors who have EVER told me what the hell they were prescribing.
Generally, medical care here is good, but this isn't home, and you need to learn to hold back a lot of info. |

Don't worry, your boss and co-workers will all know if you have irregular periods or any health problem for that matter. Your health report is an open book here. |
