Some info I received from my schooll:
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced in the Korean Times newspaper this weekend that pet owners must:
Have their pets on leash when they are being walked.
Pet owners must clean up their pets waste. The fine is 100,000 won if you do not.
Pet owners must have a dog tag or identication tag on their pets that lists the owners name, your address, and your telephone number. 200,000 won fine
You must vaccinate your pets. 100,000 won fine
If pets are abandoned, owners could face 500,000 won fines.
Pets abandoned and or stray animals will only be kept 10 days before being euthanized. The time period was shortened from 30 days.
If you abuse your pets, owners will be fined up to a maximum of 5 million won.
You must muzzle ferocious dogs. 300,000 won fine
Some government offices have also made it mandatory for pet owners or those who breed pets for sale to register their pets and will charge fines of 300,000 won for failing to do so. Sorry, but I do not have a list of those municipalities to share.
The fines are due to the large number of stray dogs in Seoul. The collected fine is to be used for animal protection and environmental preservation. Important: The fines are already in effect. |

So does that make dog meat illegal now? Beating a dog to death(which IS THE METHOD THEY USE TO KILL DOGS FOR DOG MEAT DISHES....they claim it makes the meat....TENDER). Hmmm......lemme' think for just a sec. That qualifies as animal abuse. Heck, I won't even walk my pug down the same street as the dog meat restaurants out of fear that a boshintang ajumma will come chasing after my beloved little puglet with a meat cleaver. If that law doesn't put all of those #$@% dog meat restaurants out of business, then it will again show the double standard that exists here for almost EVERYTHING!! |

I saw an English Springer Spaniel two weeks ago near Sindang Station. I thought it was just sitting there enjoying being tied up to a post. So I went up to pet it, then I heard a screaming yelp, really brutal, gut wrenching, lasted about 12 seconds. Took me a minute to realize that I was standing in the facade of a dog slaughtering shack. Sooo, is this techinally illegal here? I am hearing mixed answers. Honestly, I don't care what you all may think, I think its fucked up to torture an animal to death. |
