JS Education cont.
Labor Board is well on it's way. An illegal offer for 400k [LB asked him, initially to pay 850k, before our case was clearly heard - it mysteriously got shrunken by him].

Every time the LB meetings took place, the gas company paid a visit - so you understand, he's claimed to have paid well over 200k for the bills, including 2 months that we weren't there - of course, nothing of the sort happened, and the LB lady called him a "cheat".

Now the gas is off, as in shut off from the meter, not from the valve.

I am about to check the St. Andrews [Ianinilsan], does anyone has any other suggestions?

When you go down to see the meter, there is a lever next to it. Unless it's locked, you can just turn it back on.

Either that, or call the gas company and have the account put in your name.

Seoul Bar Association and the Human Rights Association. The former has some teeth; the latter "could" scare the FACE off of a Korean Jackass Boss in short order.

Sincerely,

Come to think of it, this stuff happened to me in Gimcheon. There was a red tape-ish thing wrapped around the lever. I just did what The Eye suggested: turn the lever to the right to 3 O'Clock.

You probably know what you're talking about, but on the off chance that you don't (I have a couple of friends who swear up and down that something is one way only to find that they have no clue -- not saying that's you, but on the chance you're like my friends), try this:

The meter has a quarter-turn valve upstream or downstream of the meter. If it's at right angles to the pipe it's off so put it in line with the pipe.

Now, as has happened to me in the past, it's possible that they took the handle off of the quarter-turn valve. It can be turned with a pair of pliers or by taking the handle off of the neighbor's valve and using it.

I'd like to see a video demo of this. Or some pics. Live would be the best, though. Ha!

georgewallas, try it out. Let us know how it goes.

I was a mite late.

Oh well, if they take of the handle you know what to do.

The gas was turned off to get you to leave the apartment. Contact the gas company ASAP and let them know you're living there legally and that you're involved with a Labor/Legal case.

Also, you've filed with Labor, right? And you've also informed Immigration that you're involved with Labor action against your former employer?

If yes, let them know that the utilities have been illegally shut off- especially the Labor contact person in charge of your hearing. They're not supposed to do crap like this, but it does happen. Rotten hogwan owners have no shame, whatsoever.

The gas is back on.
Apparently, the hog told the gas company that I owe him money, and that I will be run - wishfull thinking, I guess.
The fact we had old [fully paid] bills, and the "pay stub" he tried to offer us was pointless, since we're not Korean, and he is, they took his word for it.
We went to another depot, and after some fast talking by an interpreter we met at the LB hearing we were put on some kind of a "pre pay" with utilities. I haven't a clue how that works, but the gas is on, the house is warm.

Hog 0: Good guy[?] 1

It is really shamefull that a pot is calling a kettle black, but more so the willingness of Koreans to believe each other, rather than fact.

Do you have anyone who can interpret for you?

But the truth is that it is that simple. I had some bill confusion where the landlady handed out bills to the wrong people and had my gas cut off despite having paid the (other tenant's) bill. Went down to discuss it with the guy who received my bill and he walked me over to the gas valves and showed me how to turn it on, little bling-bling paper on it and everything. The dude was Korean, so I would assume this is an understood concept and obliged to play my role of gas-siphoning for a day or two.

We even sorted it out with a quick exchange of won and a discussion on my part with the landlady. To be fair, I don't think homeboy was trying to rip me off since I was knocking on his door at 7:00 in the morning, requesting a warm shower.
