I was thinking of going to Phoenix Park on Thurs, but my Korean co-teachers have told me there will be crowds of monstrous proportions at the slopes. I thought most people would be laying low doing the family stuff, and my co-teachers have grossly misinformed me on travel conditions before. Does anybody know what it's supposed to be like?

I would recommend just avoiding travelling altogether.

I heard the exact opposite from somebody who went last year. They said the slopes were deserted and a lot of my friends are going again this year.

I went to Yongpyoung 3 years ago during Seollal and it was great. Never had to wait more than 2 minutes for the lifts, or maybe 5 minutes for the gondola. We were able to get a pension for a decent price too, at the last minute. I say, go for it.

Being there wouldn't be bad, but getting there might really suck if you go on the wrong day.

I, too, have been on the day of the holiday. The lines were short and there was often a discounted price!

I'm going to YongPyong Thursday and Friday and had no trouble making reservations- I have met only one Korean who is going skiing with his family, and I have asked a lot of people what they are doing over the holidays.
Everyone else is travelling abroad, to their ancestral homes, or laying low.
I'd say the slopes will be deserted, and the roads should be too considering the mass exodus from Seoul will be Tuesday night/Wednesday, and the mass return will be Saturday/Sunday. |
