Thanks for checking it out. Which countries have you worked in? Of the three on the site, I would have to say Slovakia was my favorite. In Japan, the cultural differences could be a little trying at times. Djibouti is very difficult and I'm struggling to find things to do outside of work, thus, the blog.

Went to Djibouti about 1992 and I agree there seems to be little to do. Of course you could visit the beach.

Actually I think there is a race every year, in the Petit Bara? You have two plains, one called the Petit Bara and the other called the Grand Bara, and I think there is a 10 kilometer race if you're into cross desert/country runs.

I also went and spent some time on an Island off the coast, got delivered by Marine landing craft or something. It was good for fishing, just remember to bring lots of suncream, water and beer and a big parasol. You may have to organise it yourself.

Actually, I've been getting a little more courageous recently and been probing further and further inland. The only thing that stops me is the bad roads because my little Nissan can't handle them. I'll post another TL to my blog when I take some more pictures!!

What's the travel situation like there? As I remember it every tribe at the time was quite well armed with Kalashinkovs?

If I could suggest being cautious as you are in North Africa and at the moment it is a hive of muslim extremism. Maybe I'm being a little ott though?

Would be great to get to see some more pics of the place though. Ask the military guys about the race, I imagine some of them are hardcore runners.

Down in the Petit Bara you can see the ruins of small villages that look like they fell into disrepair, just stone circles, I enjoyed that. And there are some wonderful ravine type things that you can possibly drive through that are very beautiful, look up the term Wadi bashing. If you go further inland there are a number of small oasis too.

Hey, thanks for the travel advice. I've put up a few of the TLs for Djibouti but still have a few in reserve. I usually put a new one up every Thursday. Check them out when you get a chance.

I haven't seen too many Kalishnikovs. I think things have probably settled down a little. My biggest fear is theft. I've already had a camera stolen at work. I plan to go to Lake Assal in a few days.

Keep in touch!
