According to a new CDC study.

This should fairly soundly debunk the "foreigners with AIDS" myth, at least among us Yanks. Keep this one in your arsenal.

What about the ones that go whoring in Thailand? Seems like half the foreign men here like to make that trip, even the married ones. You should hear the talk in the bars.

You're bragging about 0.5% of 300 000 000?

Yeah, that's only 1.5 million. Not really that much at all.

The US does not have 300 million adults.

If you think of it this way, if .5% of Americans test HIV+ and the chances of an HIV test giving a false positive is .5%, then Bayes' rule dictates, I believe, a test is holy useless.

What is the false positive rate of HIV tests anyway?

You people need to do some research about hiv and stop letting yourselves be scaremongered by pharmaceutical companies and the sensationalistic media . The fact of the matter is that it's just extremely hard to get the disease via heterosexual sex . In fact it's been shown that it would take on average 7000 exposures for a man and 3500 for a women to have any significant chance of getting it . Factored into this are risks of people having std's and the likes .

Taken into context , sexual practice alone can not explain all the cases of aids in Africa . Even there you are being fed a whole lot of highly inflated figures based on testing pregnant women who notoriously give false positives and based on simple lies so that you will empty for pockets for "charities" and your governments can recieve kickbacks from pharmaceutical companies .

What you're saying sounds highly dubious, at best.

I heard it can be spread by kissing. That was an elected official who had a medical doctorate who said that one. (I know, he was a retard)

Anyway, since roughly 2/3 of the US population is adult, that means only about 1 million people are infected.

The figure of 1/7000 for the insertive partner in heterosexual vaginal sex is the accepted figure throughout the medical community. But it likely overstates the case in itself, as the majority of people who contract it already have festering STI's. HIV is amazingly difficult for heterosexuals to acquire, unless they have a bleeding cack and vag already.

If you share needles or come from a country that shares needles in hospitals, then you are screwed. If you have random unprotected receptive anal sex with thousands of partners, then you are at a very high risk.

The raw number is 600,000. People who have herpes are 15x more likely to have HIV, as well. From the reuters article on this topic.

1 in 5 americans have herpes . It doesn't imply risky behaviour , but the weeping sores can obviously give the virus easier access to the body .

0.5 % of americans ...I doubt even that many . They did a study in a South African hardcore jail and force tested everybody...they found 0.7 % . I'm telling you that while I don't deny the existance of Aids , that there are people out there actively trying to sell you the myth that it's far more widespread than is reality .

Yes, people are dying in africa and always have been from low immune systems due to diet , drug aand alcohol abuse , poor living conditions etc ...that go hand in hand with Tb infection . In fact TB and aids only acounted for 70 000 deaths in South Africa in 2005 (latest data i've seen : 15 000 aids and 50 000 Tb)...that's from the official mortality rates released . Does this seem consistant with the rubbish the media is telling you about 1 in 4 people have aids and 700 000 new infections every year ? Remember they have been preaching that story to us in South Africa for close to 15 years .....time to hold someone accountable for these lies .
