You're only losing money if they pay you the equivalent to your Korean salary in USD. Otherwise, you're still getting paid the same. You are only "losing" money if you send it home. Even then you're not losing money, you're only not able to buy as much.

Oh please. Let's have some historical perspective. Ten years ago it was about 2,000 to the dollar. |

957 is still a helluva deal. Back in 2004 I recall 1200+ won exchange rates and view anything less than 1000 as fantastic. |

The dollar has been losing value vs. most other currencies. I've read one reason the dollar has gained value against the won recently is because the incoming government wants a weaker won for the sake of exporters. Meanwhile, the central bank wants a weaker won to stem inflation. Let's hope the central bank gets their way. |

If you really want to sleep better at night....
Stop watching the exchange rates.
Or I'll start telling stories about how "back in the day" I used to get 750 won / Cdn. dollar.
Seriously, though - live a little, save a lot, send it home, and don't sweat it too much. Go home with some stories to tell. So you just lost, what? 20, 30, 40 bucks on a thousand? Per month? I bet you could save that much in a month just by not going out on a Saturday night. Or by taking 3 less taxis in a week. Or by not... (fill in your own blanks here). |

How is less won per dollar weaker?
What if it were 1 won per dollar? Is that good or bad?
Would you accept getting paid 2.3 million US dollars per month? |
