The Starbucks in my town recently took out the nice window/bar area that overlooks the street.

And put in a smoking room.

At a time when most countries, cities, businesses and reasonable people are eliminating smoking Starbucks "upgrades" and creates a smoking room.

In the meantime, cities, restaurants and bars in many countries are losing money hand over fist because of no- smoking restrictions.

Some of us enjoy a cigarette or two with our coffee. If Starbucks decides to put in a "smoking room" for us to enjoy our cigarettes without effecting (affecting?) non-smokers then good on them!

You would prefer not to go to a coffee shop that allows smoking, I would prefer not to go to a coffee shop that does not allow smoking - this way Starbucks can attract both of our patronage.

Yup. This is Korea, smoking is widely accepted. I'm surprised they didnt make that small glass box the "non-smoking" room, while the rest of the place was the smoking section.

Well..what do you prefer haute 4 teacher: a smoking room at your local starbucks or a starbucks with a smoking and non-smoking section separated by nothing more than a few meters of empty space?

Strange that they would give the best views to the smokers. Shove em in a corner and let them enjoy their haze.

Where abouts is 'your town"? I think they put in the smoking room because it has proven popular at other Starbucks in Korea such as one Gangnam.

On a similar note, the smoking rooms, or rather, lavish, green, outdoor smoking areas in the new terminal at Changi airport are superb.

Well, the Tom N Toms in my neighborhood has a smoking room, and there are more seats in there for smokers than non-smokers. I had to sit with my friend in the smoking room one night. Ridiculous! Rolling Eyes

I think it's disgusting that some places (Auckland Airport) choose to go overboard in penalising smokers, a completely legal thing, by sticking them in a 8 by 8 room with 20 other smokers in a far away place underground and accessible only with difficulty. Why not give patrons their due? They pay.
Sure, seperate so passive smoking is a non-issue, but not force them away like lepers.
It's hypocritical that major players like airports, airlines etc share the same boardrooms as tobacco firms yet choose not to attack those brands in public but attack only individuals.

There's plenty of losers who don't smoke. (Just thought I would throw that in.)
