My hawgwan situation is stable, but I have sat here and watched the school screw teachers out of due cash over and over as they finished their contracts. I have 3 weeks left and last week I tried to open the discussion of moneys and they blew me off. Not only have they duducted moneys and withheld outrageous mantenance deposits, but they never paid into the korean pension fund which I would get a full refund. Were talking a few million extra won in total. I would like to talk to anyone who has been successful in the past at getting a contract settled or a lawyer recommendation in the Seoul area.

I have moderated my complaint with efl-law.com (Tom Davidson) and have the info for the foreign workers call center of the minisry of labor already. I need action now!!!! Ill repost to all when my situation is handled.

Sorry to hear about your situation. It is an all too common scenario in Korea. The biggest problem is with new teachers who don't know what can be done. It is not hopeless, as the tone of your post might suggest.

They should be able to help you, after that the Korean labour board.

Your replys are information I already have, what I want to know is if you have actually had a successful contract negotiation with an employer. If you have never been in this situation, please understand that I have spent the last two months researching and moderating with various groups and your not giving me anything that is helpful to me or anyone who is in the same situation.

Please only respond if you have been involved in a successful negotiation.

If the owner keeps avoiding the end-of-contract discussion, you might want to consider casually advising him that you'll be going to the National Pension Office to file for your refund. Since he probably hasn't paid into the fund, he might be more willing to talk to you. It's his problem, not yours, that he's out of compliance with the National Pension Corporation. And, if he's out of compliance wth them, it's a safe bet he wouldn't show up on the National Tax Office's model taxpayer list.

Calmly inform him what it will take to keep you out of the aforementioned offices. If he get's really nasty just tell him that you feel it's time that you and he seek the services of the Labor Board in mediating the disagreement.

These strategies have worked for some but keeping your cool is very important.
