It looks like I might be working at a University situated in the Uijeong-bu area of Seoul in March, near the Mangwolsa subway station.

Does anyone know of any hotels/motels/hostels/koshiwons where I could stay for a month or two, while looking for more permanent accommodation?

My housing allowance from the Uni. will be 450,000 per month, so I will be looking for something in that range. But am willing to go up to 600,000 per month, for the first month or so.

Ideally, I am looking for a place that would have at least a mini fridge in the room.

Thank you.

You should be able to find something low-end in Uijongbu for 300,000 per month. Try to find an English speaking real estate agent near the military base and emphasize that you are NOT military, but and English teacher. And tell them you only have 300,000 per month and see what they show you. A former co-worker of mine got a big 2br place in Tongduchon (a bit further up Line 1) for 5mil down and 300 per month.

You should be able to find a goshiwon for 200-300 for the first month. You might also want to try a low end motel (they will have a mini-fridge), you could probably get that for 400-500/month. If I were you, I would just start walking into motels in Uijongbu near the train station and seeing if they will give you a room for a month for 450. I'm sure some place will decide that it's worth it. Worst case you offer 600 (that's 20 per day and they usually charge 30-35 for one night short stays).
