I'm confused.

I'm in the U.S. I've been taking to a recruiter for awhile now. I have a contract, I'm researching my school, I'm getting ready to leave, etc.

I'm supposed to be in Daejeon by March 3rd. I've been keeping up with the visa laws. I was gearing up to go get my criminal check and medical check, but last night on the phone, my recruiter told me that that would be unnecessary.

According to him, they've pushed back the instatement of these laws. He said it depends on the Korean consulate, as some consulates in the U.S will require you to have everything, but the consulate in Houston (which is where I currently am) doesn't require these things yet.

However, according to everything recent in this forum, everyone is talking like everything's in full swing as it has been since 12/15.

Does anyone know anything about this? I'm so confused and stressed out. It would be great news to hear that I don't have to deal with the Dr. appointment and the criminal check, but if it needs to be done...

Help! Thanks.

I don't know if what your recruiter says is correct or not but seeing as recruiters frequently lie it's probably best that you get everything ready as per December 15th regulations.

first of all, "law" is a fluid concept in Korea

secondly, March 15th is the magic date for certain exceptions, perhaps that is one of them

GO WITH THE FLOW... if they give you your visa then take it, no questions asked

good luck whatever

I think your recruiter has put you wrong and confused the medical and the criminal check as being in the same first part of getting the visa .

You definitely do have to send a police check that is Apostilled to your employer for him/ her to submit to immigration to get the visa number

All you have to put forward for immigration at this same point is a one page health form that is downloadable from most recruiters [ I expect ] and immigration. This form has got 5 questions on it and takes a minute to complete

Then when you get the visa number issued and arrive in Korea you have to go in for a complete medical check before they will issue your alien card [ you have 90 days to do so]

The only change to this process is if you are being employed by a government public school such as EPIK.
EPIK has somehow managed to waiver all Apostilles on everything and has also waivered the interview at the Korean embassy when you depart.

As far as certain Korean embassies are concerned [like where you will go] as having different rules - this is very wrong advice. Most likely there is some confusion among embassies now, but they may suddenly learn the new rules the day you go for you stamp in your passport

So where are you going ? public or hagwon?

He did say March 15th.

This is so frustrating. No one knows what they're talking about...including the Korean government. I guess I should get used to that! Very Happy

The exceptions that March 15 apply to are for those who are IN KOREA NOW and currently holding an E2 visa.

New applicants have to jump through the hoops (started Dec.15).

Those who have had an E2 previously are exempt from the interview requirement but still require the CRC and have to answer a medical questionnaire as well as have an apostille affixed to their documents.
