Ive heard this idea around these forums. I can only see this idea backfiring in Korea's face and bringing to the surface Korea's blatant racism.

Employing an Indian or Philapino teacher in Korea would be akin to employing ronald mcdonald to teach.

It will lead to disaster and chaos and, given india's economic surge likely to see it at the forefront of globalisation within the next 2 - 3 decades, it could even damage long term bi-lateral relations the 2 countries would have should such an experiment go wrong.

But that isnt really the point. The kids hardly respect teachers from western countries. Employing teachers from neighbouring asian countries would not bing the desired results. Who are the proponents of this absurd idea I would like to know.

On this point ive observed Koreans whilst holidaying in Malaysia last month and, speaking a little Korean, they were extremely disrespectful to Malaysians of all kinds.

I definitely support the idea.

China is going to be the world's largest English speaking country soon. There are bound to be plenty of capable teachers of English there, as there are in India and the Philippines.

People coming from Asian countries to teach in Korea will probably already be aware of the prejudices they will face- Korea is not unknown in Asia. For some people, they might face prejudice in their own country, and might not think much of the discrimination in Korea- for example, Indians of lower castes.

As for people taking 'our' jobs, Westerners have to compete with the world- that's part of globalisation's package.

I certainly don't think much of this statement.

im not talking about their ability as teachers (im sure they are very good teachers) or anything or even what quality of person. Im talking more about how existing perceptions of people from these countries coupled with the sparkling korean ignorance and racism would lead to a very problematic situation.
