I have been trying to get a hold of someone at G-EPIK for several weeks now to request a letter verifying my previous employment with EPIK in Kyonggi-do from several years ago when Kyonggi was under EPIK administration (and still caled Kyonggi, not Gyonggi).

After blanket emailing every G-EPIK email address I could find nearly 2 weeks ago, I finally get a response from Wenise Kim.

She responds that G-EPIK doesn't issue reference letters, and that I should contact the school directly.

I explain to her, for the second time, that I did not have a base school. I rotated among several rural schools the entire year, and no specific school was responsible for me. I receive no response from Wenise.

Is there anybody competent at G-EPIK who can assist me, or is this a really disorganized program these days?

Sparkling,

TB

Contact your primary school, it should be the one that was paying you. Might be hard to remember who it was though heh. God knows if I worked at several schools then I wouldn't know my primary one ;p

It is a completely different program under a different administration in a different location so why would they have any of your records?

If you were part of the OLD EPIK program, then there probably isn't any place (other than your immigration file or your old primary school) who would have any record of you.

Even the new EPIK program (under NIIED) didn't/doesn't have a lot of continuity with the older programs that it superseded.

Good luck to you. If you have any old contacts of Koreans that you worked with you might have better luck getting somewhere.

One bad part about teaching in Korea . . . can't prove it. Unless you can bring something back with you, like language skills, certifications, or a hot girlfriend.

Ttompatz,

I was actually told by the current NIIE EPIK office that all archived Kyonggi EPIK records were migrated to the G-EPIK office when it broke off. Whether that is true or not, who knows....G-EPIK won't talk to me. Come to think of it, I should apply for G-EPIK...I bet they could find my old records if it was the deal closer for hiring me.....

Anyways, I have a copy of my original ARC and a copy of my original visa, so I will visit immigration when I return and see what they can do for me.

I would go the route of using a Korean friend, but I think they would be overwhelmed by the critical mass of confusion, and that's not fair to someone I haven't had significant correspondence with in more than a couple of years....

Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions...well, maybe not Spliff...
