Ok here is our situation, in short.

We plan to fly to Canada to see my parents this summer. We want to fly into Edmonton, meet my parents there, and then drive to my hometown a few days later.

On the way back, that's troublesome. We can either get a separate ticket and fly back to Vancouver (or other city) from my hometown (Saskatoon) or make the trip back to Edmonton some other way. The first option will likely cost us a bundle, as 1 way tickets always do.

As many on here know, we have a young child. She'll be 7 months old at the time. Some things are not an option.

Any and all ideas would be appreciated.

Fly your favorite airline to Vancouver. Get your best price on your round trip ticket. I personally like Singapore air for price and service (especially when flying with an infant).

Fly Westjet one way Vancouver to Edmonton and one way from Saskatoon to Vancouver. Round trip tickets are nothing special with them - they are just two one way fares. Book long in advance for best prices.

YVR-YEG as low as $150 per adult (baby flies free). (return flights are $300)
YXE-YVR as low as $215 per adult (baby flies free). (return flights are $430).

They are pretty accommodating when you are flying with a baby.

Jazz / Tango also have pretty decent fares when you book far enough in advance and on-line. Don't let a Korean travel agent do it for you - you will pay more than double for the privilege.

Thank you, very helpful advice.

How much would you estimate a Singapore flight to Vancouver? Maybe 900,000 or 1 million?

I had a similar situation this past Christmas. I flew to Edmonton on JAL, then just booked Westjet to get to Edmonton. It worked out cheaper that way because I got a seat sale with Westjet. And it's definitely easier if you're going and leaving from different cities.

Book far enough in advance (90 days) and you can get return tickets (ICN-YVR-ICN) from around 1 million. The baby will pay 10% of the full fare rate (I think we paid 250k including taxes for the baby).

You can wait and hope for a seat sale to maybe save 100k per seat but you may end up paying much more as well.
