I keep hearing everyone's buying all these Western foods, etc at Costco. What do they have there that you can't get elsewhere?

A lot of stuff I see at Hannam Supermarket, was bought at Costco and they just marked up the price.

I 've got a brick of pepper jack cheese, veggie burgers, and spinach ravioli in my freezer from there. They've got a good bakery, and my friends seem to like the butcher section. Oh, the liquor selection is rather nice too.

I've never actually seen chocolate chips at Costco, and I've looked. But the Costco here is like Costco's back home -- they change their inventory constantly.

Cheese, "back-home" style frozen goods, granola, wide selection of juices, cheap meat and seafood, good pizza, scent-free detergent, cheaper razor blades/other toiletries, familiar baked goods, salted pistachios, mixed nuts, etc.

For the home: Clorox disinfecting wipes, Pine-Sol, and Tide

For the classroom: Ever-changing selection of cheap English children's books, construction paper, cheap-but-decent colored pencils, the big pack of Sharpies with a dozen or so colors, cheap Crayola products, and various and other sundry seasonal finds

On the food front: Cheap canned veggies (under W1,000 a can usually), Juicy Juice, Silk soy milk, Nature's Path Organic Optimum Power cereal, GardenBurgers, cheap frozen fruits and veggies, skinless and boneless chicken breasts

Things you can find at Costco

Usually they are much cheaper than other places #1

Cheese...havarti, jack, pepper jack, cheddar, edam, gouda, feta, parmesan....and the list goes on.

Salami, pepperoni, ham, back bacon, bacon, beef(pretty decently priced too).

Costco muffins....blueberry, walnut, coconut pineapple, double chocolate.

Bagels, plain, blueberry and raisen cinnamon.

Nuts....I mean 1.5 kg of cashews for less than 20,000 won. The good kind not the cheap little ones you pay 5,000 won for a tiny little can.

Costco hotdogs..worth the trip right there.

Costco pizza.

Huge wine selection.

Pastas, candies, chips, canned goods.

You used to be able to get Kirkland beef hamburger patties there and they were cheap but I havent seen them in a while. I think the mad cow crisis is keeping them out of Korea.

Whole hams...the smoked ones with the bone in.

Black forest hams, honey cured hams.....mmmmmmmm ham Very Happy

Tons of stuff you can get there that you cant find anywhere else or if you can you pay for it!

DVD's, CD's clothes, appliances.

Anyone ever apply for a costco membership in country? A friend wanted to know what to pack. We went through all the obvious things like deoderant, a fitted/top sheet combo, and bras if you have monster pipes. I added that the one thing I wished I got before coming here was a costco card. Seems to me a good thing to have in your pocket if you find some things hard to live without (like hot dog buns... i'm so tired of eating my hot dogs by folding a slice of bread around it... I feel like I'm some kind of god damn french canadian).

I applied for mine here... took 5 minutes..

When you walk in you'll see a desk before the "guarded" entrance..

just go there and fill an application, get your pic taken and voila!

goodness!

I know there are atleast 3 Costcos in Seoul and one in Daejeon... I'm sure there are more but I don't know of them..
