Anyone know of any good pool halls in Seoul? Besides the local billiard clubs with the token pool table hidden in the corner, are there any decent places to play/hang out?

They're all over the place, the trouble is finding a table with pockets. Just look for signs with three pool balls (usually red, green, and blue) stacked virtically. You might have to try a few places before you find a table with pockets.

Yeah, the local billiard halls are all over but I'm trying to find a pool hall with a little more atmosphere. I used to go to a place that only had pool tables in Gunsan, served drinks, etc, so there's gotta be a place like that in Seoul. Right??!!

I haven't come across your typical North American pool hall in Seoul. I know of one in Bundang in Samsung Plaza at Seohyeon station, it's right across from Paris Baguette.

If you're looking for competition there are plenty of leagues at bars in Itaewon.

in Hongdae there is a place called Mecca, there are about 7 or 8 top quality brunswick tables for 9 ball or 8 ball, plenty of space btween the tables and good equipment.

come out exit 5 of Hongdae station...head straight for about 50 metres until you get to the road the goes up towards the hongdae campus, get on the right side of the road and then take the second right and you'll will see Mecca about 30 metres down on the right hand side.

If you're by the Jongno area, i tutor someone who owns a pool hall there. (mostly girls play the billiard tables on the 5th floor while the salarymen play the traditional korean pool 'sagu' on the 3rd floor) It's not anything fancy (just free drinks like coffee or soda) and it's mostly a korean crowd but if you ever want to just play a good game, you should play with my student. He is a professional pool player who will give you a run for your money. He speaks a fair amount of English but he can always use practice as he is competing internationally later on this year. Of course he can help you learn Korean too if you're interested in that.

Thanks for the help! Will check out Mecca as that's the closest to me and seems to be what I was looking for. Just looking for a place to chill out and shoot stick. Once again, thanks!

Since you are in Seoul, I'd also try looking over at http://www.itaewonpool.org/; I bet they can put you in touch with a place.

Close to Anyang station - very close to Irish Dreams bar (across the street???) I went into one that had 4-5 really nice clean, level, well maintained tables - probably because they dont get used!

If you are just casually looking, a good sign (besides the sagu decal/symbol mentioned above) is for a similar sticker showing a full 8-ball rack.
