Could people talk about schools that have treated them well? Please include the location of the school because often big chains have schools that are good and others that are a nightmare. I thought that this may help people a bit. |

There's a really nice and small hogwan in Wonju. It's an all English preschool and elementary program. The hours were good.. no nights. Korean is not used there hardly at all. The director was awesome. Location was great and they provided 4 weeks of vacation which is even more than I have now. PM me for details.
Now I'm at a public high school. I much prefer older teens. My high school is in Namyangju City. The staff here are also quite good. I'm happy with it so far. Again, pm for details... |

I can vouch for Oregon Language Institute (OLI) in Chilgok, Daegu.
The director and family were respectful and helpful. No issues with pay etc.
Hope this helps someone in the future! |

강철수어학원 (Kang Cheol-su Academy) in Yeosu is fantastic. I can say, without hyperbole, that Mr. Kang is one of the best people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. It was a privilege to work for him; he always treated me (and his other employees, and the other students) very fairly. He was always willing to listen to any problems I had and help rectify the situations at hand.
I knew I had it good, but I left the academy after 15 months because I wanted a job where I could share a schedule with my wife. Now I'm working in an elementary school and I miss my academy job almost every day.
I will completely vouch for this academy. They'll actually be looking for a new teacher come February, I think, as the current foreigner is moving back to America (I think). |

Funny how some of those cozy academies can really make you miss hogwans, isn't it?
It makes all the difference in the world when your director supports you and stays on top of things. Doesn't hurt when the parents are 100 percent behind you as well and the students going from being forced to respect you to actually willingly respecting you. |

Kim Chun-Chul in Suncheon, Cholla-nam Do. (Mae-Gok Dong) was excellent for the 6 years I taught there. Housing was a bit spotty but hours, director, facilities, etc were great.
East-West in Daejeon is another good school. Good program. Director has a great attitude (Provide a good education and the money will follow).
Very easy to work with and work for. |

I'm glad you got rid of that picture...the woman on your left has forever and ever ended the dream of hitting it with two women at the same time.
Thanks again! |

Hi Matilda
Re Oregon Language Institute.
What tax rate were you taxed at??? If 5 % percent is acceptable to you, then of course you would have had no pay issues.
The deduction for the health insurance. Are you not aware ( as we all were in our time) that the monies were not paid over? The only costs for Oregon were the bribes.
A backdating system was used. In case of a claim, you would be presented as a recent arrival and Mrs Lee could legitimately proclaim that you were covered. Just to please wait a few days for Mr Lee to go and arrange matters.
No medical card or literature of course.
A well-deserved candidate for blacklisting.
By the way, refund of my deposit was "forgotten" and I was told that it would be wired to me. You should have heard the crestfallen sound in Mrs Lee's voice when I returned to Korea 4 months later and made the phonecall to say that I'm in town. |

Hi Snowkr,
I was curious to know the school you are teaching at? I may arrive in Namyangju city sometime next month to teach at Onam Middle School, any info will be highly appreciated. Peace. |

I've worked for a few amd think that Ina's Hagwon in Gangnueng is pretty good, the best so far.. They've ten years of experience and it shows 'cos the school works pretty much like clockwork. No hassle. |

With the exception of my first teaching gig (talked about in another thread), ALL of my schools have treated me right (most for 3 years each)...until I tell them I'm not re-signing, then the screwjob begins. |
