Maybe someone could sticky this, since some of these questions pop up a lot, but never all of them in the same post. Could someone answer these for me? If there are any other common questions, maybe people could just add them to this post like with the laptop FAQ.

Are there any disadvantages to buying a 360 in Korea instead of in the US?

Does XBOX Live work in Korea? Does you account carry over if you open it in the US?

Does running a 360 through a power converter increase the chances of the red ring of death?

Does the new 3 year warranty MS introduced a few days ago apply to XBOX's worldwide?

Region Codes. 360 in Korea will only play Asian Region games, unless its modded. If you plan on taking your 360 back to the states and play on XBox live, then you best get a US 360 and buy US 360 games.

Yes, I am currently using my XBox live account that I started in the US. No bans and no problems so far. The only thing that sucks is the lag when playing against people in North America

No. Not that I heard of. Higher chance of the ring of death by breathing on it than a power inverter.

Good question. Most likely. The EU would raise hell if only US consoles got the extended warranty. However, if you open your xbox360 or attempt to mod it, then you void all warranty.

Yup. If you can't find an English language version at Yongsan, use www.play-asia.com

Quick, reliable, cheap...

Might want to add that even with a US account, you can't access the video marketplace from here (or any where else, outside America). Why people would pay to download movies to their Xbox in the age of torrents is anyone's guess but its probably worth noting.

And I'd also like information on Yongsan modding added to the faq.

I can't find anyone in yongsan to sell me burned games. Anybody know of a place?

Heck, I'd even pay someone on here to do it for me if it's a reasonable price and it works.

I'd do it myself but I don't have a DVD burner on my laptop.... could be an excuse to finally buy a desktop and a nice big LCD monitor.

mrsquirrel was the HD suggestion for me?

Can they load games onto the hard drive to be played off of it like the old xbox? (I never used this ability, I just knew it was theoretically possible)

Maybe I'll go up there this weekend and ask around in the area you mentioned. Thanks!

Okay, so I brought my 360 from the States, have played consoles since NES, and worked at game store (Gamestop) for years during college, so I have SOME experience.

Are there any disadvantages to buying a 360 in Korea instead of in the US?

The disadvantages are that you will need to buy Korean region games for SOME games. There are many, mainly non-EA games, that are region free and will work on any system. For the EA games and some others, you need a region that matches your system. Play-Asia.com is a good resource to get games from any region, any where in the world.
One big advantage is that you don't need to get a converter for your system and can probably get it fixed here, where as a US 360 has to be sent to Texas if you have any problems.

Xbox live works great in Korea. I started my account in the States but played Gears of War and others here quite a bit. Everything worked well, though I definitely got matched up with gamers in Asia more than back home, mainly due to connection speed. Had a blast.

Does running a 360 through a power converter increase the chances of the red ring of death?

For this question, all I can say is that my 360 lasted for 14 months before it died. Now it's been taken to the States by a friend and they gave me a new one. That's longer than many lasted from the original batch, so I don't think the converter had anything to due with it. That being said, the new models have been fixed so this problem will occure less, as well as the warranty being extended to 3 years, leading me to believe you should have a happy life with a 360. Bringing mine here was the best thing I did, aside from bringing my wife, but it was close.

Does the new 3 year warranty MS introduced a few days ago apply to XBOX's worldwide?

This is the one I'm not sure of. Repair centers seem to be based on region, but I haven't confirmed that. I just can't see them sending Asia region boxes to Texas.

Hope this helps and please let me know if you find any Xbox Game Rooms.

I was in Yongsan yesterday, spoke to a lad there who would flash your firmware on a 360.

!!Watch out!! - sounds suspicious

He told me that he could only flash 2006 Jan-April. I enquired as what he could do with my 2007-feb production. He offered to swap it for a 2006 model. Not a good deal IMO. If you do have a 360 and want it flashed to play copied games it's only the really recent ones which are causing problems. Don't believe the bullshit and don't swap your system for an older model unless yours is old already.

I have researched as much as I can on the flashing of drives and it's crap that he speaks. I wouldn't fancy handing over my machine to be handed back one which is over a year old with unknown history. He made the point of saying that it's my problem if anything were to happen to the machine afterwards.

IMO not worth the risk.

The lad upstairs will sell you copied games as will two people downstairs that I found on the left just before the up ramp.
