What can I do with a week in and around Kathmandu? Any advice on the itinerary? |

Spend 3 nights in Bhaktapur, & do a daytrip to Nagakot. Patan is worth 2-3 days, as is Kathmandu. |

What can you do? The place is amazing--an ancient cultural intersection--alive with many interesting cultural practices and endless magical perspectives are available for the curious eye of a keen photographer. As you're there for just a week...well, perhaps you'll simply want to take the bus over to enjoy the Annapurna valley. Machachupari (Fish Tail Mountain) is actually a more beautiful site to behold than Everest. The glaciers will blow your mind away! Trek up into the higher alpine regions, to experience the rugged beauty...habituation to the vast...a sense of timelessness will enthrall you, and the unique flora and fauna of the area will stay with you forever. Find joy in hiking the countless trails; traverse mountain streams; watch the women toss flowers at dawn to the gods...enjoy tea with the locals...greet the monkeys...be ever mindful of the tigers! I spent a month at Bungjali (near Pokara), working at a Tibetan Refugeee Camp school...had an amazing time with the kids and fellow teachers. Wonderful people. (Excellent black hashish, if you're into that.)
Don't forget to go and see the great Monkey-God Buddhist Temple located on the edge of Katmandu...very tranquil place. The monkeys will actually guide you up to the top of the temple sanctuary...then sit and expect to have tea with you
It would be wise to travel with someone that you can trust, especially in any of the remoter districts of Nepal...although the civil war has officially ended...dangers still do exist. The high mountain regions are very remote territories, and thus, caution must be taken when exploring the outback at all times. The beauty can transfix your mind...leaving you to "follow your bliss" along trails that do go on forever! (Always have a compass and map handy. Understand your key geographical reference points and use common sense.) In the day the temp. will be fine, but at night it will get quite cold. It would be a good idea to maybe have good clothing and some basic gear with you. There are NO Quick-Stops or 7-11s anywhere in Nepal.
Have a great time...you will love the experience! You might even get lucky and see a rare yeti--I did! A hairy white 7 foot one!
Oh--and when high in the mountains--be careful of the nasty plants that can [chemically] burn you--delt with that one--not nice.
Cheers - wishing you a good time in beautiful Nepal. |

Get a cheap flight and package deal and go to Chitwan national park.. do a three day elephant trek and see tons of beautiful wildlife and exotic landscape. I did it a few years back and to this day it was the single most fantastic thing i have done. I saw wild rhinos.. monkeys . and even a tiger.. very cool indeed! Stay at the International guesthouse in kathmandu.. and just enjoy the great people and food in the city. I could spend months exploring Nepal. And I have.. Def one fo the best countries to spend time in.. Dont forget to check out Chitwan!!
Pm me if you need a travel agent there in KTM. My best friend;s wife's sister has one and she speaks great english. |

As nice as Pokhara & Chitwan are (& I've been to both), I really don't think you'll have enough time, with just one week in Nepal, to visit either. I'd stick to the Kathmandu Valley, or extend your time in Nepal. |

I've got 9 full days now, so is that enough time to get Chitwan in there?
What are the prices for Chitwan? Did you stay in the park? How much? |
