I am in a bit of a frustrating situation.
Last month I changed schools. It was my original bosses idea, because the English side of his hagwon was losing money (it was losing money before I got there). I wasn't to sad to leave that school and went to the new one. THe problem is my old boss is refusing to transfer my work visa to my new work. He says that he doesn't want to shut down the English part of his hagwan until Febuary. Until he closes that he says that he can't swtich my work visa to my new school.
I'm not sure what the actual procedure for this is (I suggested to my director to contact immigration and find out). I think all that needs to be done is for all the parties involved in this is to go to immigration and do the paper work. Appearently all of the paper work is done and it just needs to be submitted.
Anyone have any experience with this? What needs to be done?
Thanks

If I've got this right, your old boss is obligated to go to immigration and cancel your visa, while your new boss must start the paperwork process for your new E-2 (which may include getting a letter of release from the contract with your old boss too). If you are caught working for another hagwon with the old E-2 stamp, it's YOUR butt that gets fined.

Check with efl-law to confirm this however. They get back to you very quickly.

Can't or wont? I don't understand his reasoning for not wanting to cancel your visa... anyway...

Perhaps you could try adding an additional workplace to your current E2 visa. That way, your boss doesn't have to cancel your visa and it's legal to work where you're new place, if everyone's agreeable. Bit of a work around but it will prevent you and your boss and ex boss from being fined. I wonder if it would fly? Anyone got any reasons why it wouldn't?

If you choose this path, your boss needs to fill in some paperwork and you need to get yourself down to Immigration and if approved, they will add the second location to the back of your ARC (Alien Registration Card). I'm not sure how much it costs... maybe around 30,000? But don't quote me on that!

Here is a quote direct from the Immigration website:

Korean Immigration wrote:
When a foreigner desires to change or add working places under his/her present status of sojourn, he/she must apply for and obtain permission to do so in advance. For example, this permission is required when an English teacher wishes to teach English at a different language institute from the one originally designated, or desires to teach English not only at a language institute originally designated but also at a different language institute under the same status of sojourn

My guess is won't, though i can't really imagine why. He made getting my medical insurance sound like it was impossible. Maybe he is just trying to screw me around a bit. He already owes me a fair amount of money.
He promised to pay half of my yearly bonus but then changed his mind. I know he doesn't have to legally provide it to me, but he promised. If he never intended to pay it he should have said so right from the start. I would have been unhappy, but i would have understood that legally he didn' have to pay me. Since he promised it, I feel that he should pay up. He also owes me several days pay.
