I do apologize if someone has covered this in one of the many threads on e-2 visas. I was unable to locate relevant information using the search function.

My school (public middle school, yongin) has set up an appointment, using the online reservation system, to renew my E-2 visa this Friday at the Suwon Immigration office. They (my co-teachers) say it should take three hours and I`ll walk out with a renewed visa, as I am re-signing to stay for another year.

Has anyone tried this? The reason I ask: I'm heading out of the country early on Saturday morning for a vacation, so if they need to keep my passport beyond Friday to give me a new visa, I'll have to cancel either the vacation or the renewal appointment (take a guess which way I'd lean...).

I got permission to leave on Feb 16th (this Saturday) last November and bought my plane tickets soon after, but my school seems to be dragging its feet with the paperwork for my second contract. We all thought I'd be set by now. My original visa expires on feb 21st.

Two questions, then: does it sound reasonable that I'll get my visa renewed on friday? If that's not possible, what repercussions would I face for being out of country when my original e-2 expires?

thanks, kk

You should get your passport back the same day. However, keep in mind that immigration is extremely busy during this time of year. Hopefully your appointment is in the morning so you can get this over and finished with.

I did it this afternoon.

I did NOT have a reservation and the waiting line was LONG (2 hours).

It took 15 minutes AFTER I got to the counter. I had my extension and re-entry permit in hand when I walked out.

I required:

my new contract
my ARC
my passport
a filled in application form
80k won (30 for the extension and 50 for the multi-re-entry permit).

From the school I had:

copy of the schools registration
Shin won bo jung saw (sponsorship form) *this computer doesn't have K-fonts installed - sorry.

Just make sure you take all relevant documents with you and you should have no problems. I got mine in 20 minutes.
