Hi, I visit google.com all the time, but as I live in Korea typing google.com will take me to the English version of google.co.kr. Likewise gmail and google reader will default to the Korean version, even when I'm using those pages. Not a life or death situation, but highly annoying, and i know there's got to be a way to "set" google.com as the default, right? This only started to happen a few weeks ago, and never happened in the 1.5-years I've been using this computer. I've poked around "help" on google.com, but couldn't find anything. |

Just click "go to Google.com" at the bottom of the page.
(It's annoying me, too, and oddly, it's only happening at work. Somehow my home comp is set up correctly. I wish I knew how... ) |

Here's a sure fire way of getting it set to English permanently.
1) Click on the "Google.com in English" link on the Korean page
2) Click on "Preferences" link which is next to the google search box.
3) Change the "Interface Language" to English. Be sure to save your preferences (at the bottom of the page). |

As most of us know, the school internet systems tend to block the U.S. google site, with no way around it. The easiest alternative is the .ca canadian version.
At home, I generally have no trouble. However, I installed a new beta browser and apparently the cookie setting wasn't working right because I couldn't get it to stick on google.com. It kept switching to .kr. My other browsers worked fine.
So it may be your cookie setting.
But here's the neatest way around the .kr conundrum: Go to the Klingon version of google.
http://www.google.com/intl/xx-klingon/
It is, of course, really the U.S. site. But it sure would confuse your Korean co-teacher! |
